Impulsive - moi ?

Taking a screen break to flip through yesterday's newpaper culture supplement. Suddenly discover Paul McCartney is performing in one's home town, like next month !
Phone stadium and talk to very nice young man who searches all seats and both dates to try to find something I can afford. All @#$%&(ish) seats have sold out. After some heartsearching, decide that £80 is far too much, even for the chance to see one of the Beatles live on stage. Sigh.

Have bright idea and look at advert again. Yes, Paulie is also performing in Manchester, which ain't too far away from Sheffield. Try online ticket service and find I can get ticket for £52. Even adding cost of coach/train fare, that's @#$%& than the Sheffield gig. Do I, don't I ?

What the hell, how often will I get to see P Mac on stage ? I'm in the upper tier, rear view, but closer to the stage than most of the people facing him. And he might turn round.

Gee, I'm getting excited about this...

My mum offerred to get tickets for my birthday (My b'day is May 10, the concert May 3), to see Billy Joel and Elton John (yep, both).

Naturally she had to work the day the tickets went on sale, so I was the one hitting "reload" on the ticketmaster website until I could get some. We're on the upper level, toward one of the two corners facing the stage (it's ovalish). We decided to spring for the mid-price tickets, for $70. @#$%& seats were $45, the next up from ours were $195.

Went to a fantastic gig about a year back, for about a tenner. It was the Manfreds, plus special guests.

Got to see both Manfred Mann singers, Tom McGuinness, Colin Blunstone, Chris Farlowe, Rod Argent (I think), Long John Baldry and other original members of Manfred Mann, whose names escape me. Sitting about three rows from front in city Hall and bloody fantastic. Some of the best 60's pop and R & B performed by artists having a whale of a time, and who can put on a show without needing umpteen dancers, set/costume changes, and choreographers.

No trouble getting autographs afterwards either. Couldn't believe I was talking to people who performed in those old, black and white 'Ready, Steady, Go' clips ! These people are icons.

Altogether now:
Come on without, come on within,
You ain't seen nothing like the Mighty Quinn...

Wasn't Paul Jones among the Manfreds? I used to like their rendition of Blinded by the Light .... splendidly wacky lyrics.

Bruce Springsteen wirtten, IIRC. For years I've been trying to work out what the hell it all meant, and then found out that it didn't mean anything, even to people who understood the words individually.

Wasn't it Bob Dylan ? (I could be wrong.)

Paul Jones definitely was their singer for a bit.

No, it was Springsteen; which is odd because it sounds nothing like any of his other stuff. I wonder if it was just a guide vocal and he never got round to writing proper lyrics. I meantersay, consider;

And go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the
weather charts see if it was safe outside
And little early birdie gave my arms a curly-whirly
and asked me if I needed a ride

What, eh? What?

Am I the only person who can imagine the Boss singing that? It's nopt that far away from some of his early stuff.

Just like a Woman

That's what I was thinking of a Manfreds hit written by Dylan.

Paul Jones was first singer, later replaced by Mike D'abo. Both at concert. Paul Jones doesn't look a fat lot older than he did. Colin Blunstone looked scarily like a gargoyle with jaundice.

Which segues nicely into the last gig I went to; Half Man Half Biscuit, who did their famous number '99% of gargoyles look like Bob Todd'.

My friend Alan analyses (or possibly Alanyses) pop lyrics. Wow, he'd have fun with that "go-cart Mozart" thing...

I always thought that's what the lyrics to 'Blinded By the Light' sounded like, but was sure I must be wrong....

I'm well aware I want to. I'm also aware of how little money I've got...

I want them to release the track he does advertising Radio 2 - the Band on the Run with funky music.
