"Oh, I've been out drinking, I aint got nothing but the blues;
Yes, I've been on a pub-crawl, I aint got nothing but the blues;
I've really been out drinking... I've got those twelve-bar blues."

Woke up this morning, found my poor old dawg had died.
Remembered I don't have a dawg;
Gonna shoot that son-of-a-gun that dumped a dead dawg on my stoop."

Try this link for more (tongue-in-cheek) information on singing the blues.

There's other interesting links from his fridgedoor page. And lots of recipes for gumbo too,

Thanks for the reference. I've taken a brief look at that webiste, and there are indeed some other interesting bits & pieces (such as the 'Balkan Top Ten Lists', which I'd only seen in a shorter versin before this...) there.

Guess what I was doing most of yesterday evening ? Getting stuck into my Beatles Anthology DVD box set. So beautifully done and I can't believe how much early tv footage has been found, and so well cleaned-up. The sound is fabulous too (especially on my lovely, ex-rental widescreen telly). There's more material than in the original TV shows.

The extras DVD has a lovely 20 minute piece of George, Paul and Ringo sitting together in George's garden. Paul and George play ukeleles and sing together, while Ringo keeps time by slapping his hands on his legs. It's completely informal, but it's like they never stopped making music together, they read one another so well. It's so moving to watch; George looks so strong and well.

Interesting point of psychology. When talking about when they met, Paul says he was 18 months older than George, and that is a big gap when you're 14 or so. He thinks this is why George always got treated as the baby of the band and wasn't taken so seriously in his song-writing.
Cut to George, who points out that he is *nine* months younger than Paul, and that Paul has never forgotten who is older.

In fact, John was 18 months older than Paul. I think the age difference was less apparent because both had lost their mothers and were oldest child/single child and matured more quickly. George was the youngest of four and the baby of a stable family. Paul and John were getting involved with girls from about the age of 14/15, while George was still a novice until going to Hamberg at 17.

Just my thoughts, anyway. I might get something done today, or I might watch more of the anthology.....

12 Bra Blues? Segues nicely in to a plug for my NewFavBand(tm) Jonny Berliner, who I saw at the 12 Bar club in London village the other day, A venue only just larger than the average living room, complete with a balcony which places your feet level with and about a foot away from the heads of the musicians.

Handy for expressing your displeasure with a bad act, anyway... you could just sort of swing your foot and accidentally make contact with their skull, like .... any chance of them booking Liam Gallagher?
