Personally, when I html, I just use the tags and don't bother with an editor. This may explain why I still haven't ever finished a webpage...

I'm learning to use tags in Notepad, but if I'm feeling lazy I use FrontPage. Yes, I know it's Micros**t, but it's dead easy to use and doesn't *let* you use javascript or Flash or all the other bells and whistles and flashing lights that idiots think makes a webpage look 'cool'. No, it doesn't. It just makes your webpage take bloody ages to download, and drives people who might actually want to see the *content* mad.

I'm glad to say that none of the websites of ffellow fforumites fall into this category.

*tiny voice* bits of mine were done in Dreamweaver...

and nary a jot of javascript to be seen.

Unless you know The Hidden Page of Wedding Pictures, which has a javaed (javad? java'd? caffeined?) -up gallery.

It was given some user testing (Rob saw it) and they weren't keen.

I like a FREE program called Ace HTML (Available at TuCows.com for download) and has a great previewer that lets you change the screen resolution on the fly to see what it looks like. And it has some built in DHTML and Java and Javascript codelets that are pretty cool. And best of all, it's easy to use and has color coded tags that change color if you mess them up. Makes it easy to find your mistakes.

Even has a built in FTP if you need it. I personally hate FrontPage because it just feels like using a text editor to me. I had the free trial version and quit using it after about 3 days. Couldn't stand it. Haven't tried Dreamweaver though...my "contact" hasn't come thru on that one for me yet!

I made my site using html in wordpad. Bought a couple of @#$%& books on using html and that was it. Admittedly my website isn't terribly fancy - no frames, for example- but then I didn't see the need to use gee-whizz stuff.

Don't you really hate those websites where the first page takes ages to download, and then turns out to be one bloody great graphic that says

'You have reached XXXX website, click here to enter'

Why can't I just get to the £$$%^ homepage to start with ?

Always good to stick in a link saying 'to avoid the great big download time, click here and save yourself the hassle'.
