Surreal conversations I have had.....
Posted by: xmorpheus (193.95.170.---)

I have a new tshirt.

On the front, it says "Schrodinger's cat is dead"
On the back, it says "Schrodinger's cat is NOT dead"

I thought it was quite funny.

So far this morning, I have had to explain the basics of this experiment to 9 people.

But the most surreal moment was when I realised that I was in the canteen, explaining basic Quantum Theory to the catering staff, most of whom do not have English as their first language.

ooh turns out that the tshirt itself is quantum.

It exists in a state of both funny and not funny until the context is explained!

As long as it doesn't switch between real and imaginary............

This is funny. I had never heard of S's cat until recently reading a mystery by Martha Grimes, The Old Wine Shades, where this theory was explained and prominently featured. Now, all of a sudden it seems to be everywhere. It was mentioned in an episode of NCIS this Tuesday and now is in the Phorum and on t-shirts.

I wonder if it is one of those things that was regularly being referenced and because it had no meaning to me, I didn't notice. And now that I've heard of it, it is suddenly everywhere. Or rather, for some reason it has gained recent popularity and really is cropping up more frequently.

This is good.

Pyewacket, there's a word for what you have experienced but I can't for the life of me remember what it is! Anyone?

Zeitgeist?

I first came across said cat when it showed up in Douglas Adams' Dirk Gentley's Holistic Detective Agency!

I am sooo jealous!

I wanted to call the cat Schrodinger, but I was voted down.

Damn shame seeing as no-one but me and my grandmother ever sees him. It would have been appropriate.

I want a shirt that says, on the front, "The sentence on the back of this shirt is false," and on the back, "The sentence on the front of this shirt is true."

What`s interesting is that nearly all message-board posts are little quantum experiments. Except in the cases of those who`ve met each other, we just sort of have to take each other`s word for it. For all I know, you might all be axe-murdering, male ice-cream truck drivers.

Mrs. Next, I love the poem! I have a poster on my wall that says:

WANTED
Schrodinger's Cat
for
Quantum Indeterminacy
DEAD OR ALIVE

It makes me a happy hobgoblin.

I have a shirt with a picture of a cat, a gas mas and the phrase "Think outside the box".

I used to carry a key chain which read "I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person".

Sadly, i did need to explain this to people...

Martin, where did you get it? That sounds uncannily like the shirts I designed for my high school physics club...

I think I got the idea from you... I got my sister to make it.

Pretty sure I read it somewhere, probably you. :D
