Just saw the movie…it was AMAZING! Even better than I expected. There were a bunch of great scenes, awesome fights, and a couple really beautiful bits that brought tears to my eyes. Some advice: bring a tissue or two, and also, stay until after the credits.
That's a pretty good summation Holly. Himself's opinion was "it was good, but it was a bit up itself" i.e. got a little too into how wonderful it was and lost some of the humour and "in jokes" that made the first one so much fun.
I thought the ffects were superb and there were some wonderful touches in it - The "ship of Jacks" was very funny and some great one liners. But it did seem to have lost a lot of the humour and was taking itself a bit too seriously.
There were also a lot of very weak "tie ups". Main characters from the previous 2 films just got a couple of minutes on screen and then bad things happened to them - with no real storyline to tie it up. It was almost "oh yeah we forgot about him - let's kill him off".
I also felt that, rather than wrapping up the trilogy nicely, they were aiming for a 4th one. Not that I have a problem with that, but some of the story "resolution" was weak as a result I thought?
However, Jack was sex on a stick and I really liked what they did with Elizabeth. Will was just the usual - albeit with a bit of an edge - he's definitely going for the young Errol Flynn crown!
Though a friend and I were smacking our lips at the cheese of Elizabeth's speech. And the "wedding" was a bit much....

<Comforts poor Johnny. Who is naturally devastated that DAFW doesn't think much of his acting ability>
Now that I've seen it I know what you are on about. Ship of Jacks was brilliantly funny. Didn't think much of Calypso. A lot more should have been done with that. Chow Yun Fat wasn't in it for NEARLY long enough! Keith Richards was suprisingly understated. Stellan Skarsgard was wonderful. Of course.
Didn't like her speech either, was suprised they didn't turf her over the side for it. And felt severly ripped off about poor Norrington. I liked him dammit!
Oh, and Johnny Depp is a very good actor. Although I conceed he doesn't pick roles that are to everyone's taste.
I thought what they did to dad of Elizabeth was fairly bad as well. He was a fairly integral character and a good man - i thought he deserved a bit more than what he got :s
Speaking of Johnny Depp, I just read that they are making a movie of the Sondheim musical Sweeney Todd, with Johnny Depp as Sweeney! I am very excited!
