Yet more poetry

Wow, this place is almost getting literary!

Anyway, I came across this poem a little while ago. I quite like it, but it's a bit weird...I was just wondering what the rest of you thought?

==========

Watching

Who watches the watched?
That’d be me. Up in my ivory tower,
Alone with the real-time motion footage
Stuck up above the rest of you fools.
Everything’s there, every one of you
Walking, talking, living before me.
That’s all I do; keep my eye scanning,
Checking all’s well – but always I see it is good.
Suppose that’s why the few of you
Who see me there think I’m good?
Hidden up here for your safety? Ha!

Who watches the watch?
Me again. Only a bit more time
Until you’ve all gone, left, departed,
Swept clear of this worn out shell.
Should’ve been fun, looking where I want,
When. But it’s dull. You’re dull.
Not long now; you and I both know it.
But even when you’re all gone, finally,
I’ll be back and watching the next lot
Following the same stupid moves ‘til the end.

Who watches the watcher?
Makes sure I behave myself?
Ensures I do my job?
Huh. Fill in my forms,
Gloss over the various problems,
(Only more work if I care)
Ignore my thoughts wandering,
(Pondering what I’ll do next time,
Make it more fun for me)
And I’m left to myself.

Who watches the watcher?
No-one. There’s just Me.

===========

Sometimes I have trouble finding ways of putting my thoughts about these things into words, so if you have any opinions - positive or negative - I'd be interested to hear.

Maybe we should start a favourite poem competition...

I think it highlights a paradox -- infinite dimensions of objectivity. And also, illustratively, an apparently enlightening, *more* objective viewpoint... it also displays a new possibility -- the pursuit of said perspectives in search of new meaning. Then it crushes that newly perceived value by suggesting the subjectivity of that "meaning"; the constance of real human vapidity, independent of perception.

Or maybe it's just drivel.

Wouldn't be out of place in the earlier chapters of The Dance of the Voodoo Handbag...

BK, did you know that Robert Rankin has invited everyone in Sproutlore to attend his forthcoming marriage?

(I was at his 50th birthday bash, but we cannot make the wedding do.)
