Hi,

I'm new. I've just put a post in the thread of The Fourth Bear (which I've just finised reading) so thought I'd say hello here too.

HELLO! Nice to meet you all. You seem very nice people from what I've read so far. I am obviously a Jasper Fforde fan, also like Terry Pratchett and read lots of other stuff as well.

Anything else you want to know?

Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Hullo and welcome, Purple! What continent do you hail from?
Someone will be about shortly with pie shortly.

ooer! I've got family there... I know vaguely where that is! lol.
I'm fairly certain there is sweet pie about. Marked with an S, unlike the savory pie which is marked with an, er... S.

Hi Purplebeana, I'm sure Martin *nudges* was about to cut you... a lovely slice of pie, wasn't he?

Yorkshire, that's in The North, as so lovingly implied on roadsigns, isn't it? Miles away but glad to meet you.

Hello & welcome! Enjoy the pie!

hmmm..coffee

Yes, Yorkshire is in what roadsigns generally call "The North", though I have a friend, who lives over 100 miles north of me (still in England) who insists on calling it The Midlands. Some roadsigns also call it "Bronte Country" but I've not found many maps that back this up.

Hi cheerydeb, no I don't have any pets. Perhaps I ought to get one!

You can have one of my cats if you like, I'll just have to get used to my kids sulking at me. Oh hang on I already am.

Hello!
Yorkshire eh?
Isn't that where the Secret Garden book was set in?
I think some of my family was from around that area originally, before transferring to Ireland and then onto Australia

Hello Bitwit

I think it might be where the Secret Garden was set.

It's a nice part of the world (though not as nice weather as Australia :-))

Nice to meet you.

PS - I've been having a few problems with the forum on my home computer - it keeps directing me to another web page so I can only see the actual forum in about 10 second (or less) bursts! Rather annoying but that is why I haven't been able to contribute very much. I've resorted to logging in at work today. I've asked a tecchie friend to help me out so hopefully will be sorted soon and I will be able to join in properly. But apologies for just appearing and then disappearing again!

Hey purplebeana sorry about your computer trouble. Hope it gets fixed soon. The Secret Garden was in Yorkshire. Remember the part when Dickon is trying to teach Mary & Colin to speak the dialect?

Purple, that sounds like spyware is hijacking your computer! I'd download an anti-spyware programme to deal with that. AVG anti-spyware is a good one.

Thanks for the advice. I ran an antispyware check and deleted some stuff but didn't seem to solve the problem. However a techie mate suggested using a different browser to Explorer. I'm now using Opera and it seems to be working OK! HURRAH!

Possibly a change to your Hosts file, then.

Try Spyware doctor (evaluation) or spybot (free, but worth a donation), and switch to Firefox - nicer than Opera or Explorer in my opinion.

You can run multiple anti-spyware progs as unlike anti-virus progs, they don't in general object to each other.

I usually use firefox- works much better than any other browser- and a mac- I have never heard of a virus for a mac.
I hope your computer prob gets sorted out soon!
Computer probs are bad, my bro had his hard disk die two days ago, it did last 4-5 years but still, not good.
P.s. nice to meet you too Purple! Damn good colour!
