OK. Now, I'm stumped. I can put my head around a deep-fried candybar, but a drink?

Our local news actually did a story on it. As far as I can remember they squirt the drink right into the oil, after a second or so scoop it back out put it into a cup and sprinkle it with sugar.

I've haven't tried it mind you, but I think maybe they're trying too hard.

Sounds like turning syrup into toffee.

They actually used to have an advertising campaign in Scotland. "Don't drink and Fry". Honestly.

Just a random thought - what about refried beans? Does that mean they've taken something that was already deep fried and fried it again?

I think you're right. Alcohol had to have been involved in the invention. Was it involved when deciding to market it?

As for refried beans, I looked it up on Food Network:

An amusing section in Roddy Doyle's "The Van" recounts the (accidental) battering, deep frying, and subsequent sale, of the baby's (err, 'used') disposable nappy* instead of the intended piece of fish.

The baby was already nick-named 'The Snapper' before the incident and Doyle, unforgivably in my opinion, resists any attempt at the obvious puns available.

That would be because I am scarred for life by the memory of deep fried pizza. ;-)

hey xmorph no, no relation. we're just irish (american) catholics, so i've heard the music all my life. could sing 'brennan on the moor' by age 3 or thereabouts...

i can't believe anyone would find it necessary to fry a perfectly good pizza...

As for deep fried mars bars, has anyone ever had one? We generally get to Glasgow a couple of times a year to see the in-laws and there's always a "chip shop" pilgrimage and I have yet to ever see one on the list.

I know they used to have them but I'm starting to think they're extinct! Allegedly there's a chipper in Dunblane that does them - along with deep fried alligator.........can anyone confirm?
