Anyone know anything about it, where to drink, where to stay etc - I've just booked tickets for a mate's birthday present as we keep saying we need to go drinking somewhere.

I didn't think much of Cork, TBH. Put me in mind of Hartlepool on a wet Wednesday.

The Jameson's distillery is just outside Cork, little place called Middleton if memory serves. Rob and I stayed there (the town, not the brewery) on our epic Dublin-Cork-Dublin cycle ride. Don't think we did guinness in Cork, though the lunch we had in the university refectory was
a. very @#$%& and
b. delicious. I can recommend it.

Midleton (with one D), it is. You don't drink Guinness in Cork. Murphy's or Beamish (local produce).

I booked the tickets on the basis that they were @#$%&, is the reason for ending up in Cork. I'm quite looking forward to it, in a 'my bank manager won't like this' kind of way.
