It is not new though. Many laws have 'best before' dates on them, some with 'Grandfather' clauses, others without. These are things which are supposed to run for a set time, like shutting down Sydney for a conference of d*ckheads who believe that anything they decide will have the slightest possible effect on the world at large. They claim it does when it meets their needs, but if it goes against them it was due to some other force -like business looking after profits etc.

APEC is Asia Pacific Economic Conference. Economics means looking at how to get the best result for the resources available. Does closing down a city of 6 million for a week, building walls that a rabbit could get through, spending millions on 'security'(sic) that the Chaser people could drive through, and disturbing all facets of life seem good management of resources?

If they wanted security why not anchor a surplus US aircraft carrier in the middle of the Pacific and hold their stupid conferences there. No security risk, except from passing whales, and no fear of interruption. And the rest of us could get on with life and ignore them as we did this time.

Political rant now over, but,

if you wrote a story using the sort of logic of the politicians/managaers/etc of this kind of conference you would be accused of making fun of the intellectually deprived.
