Sarah,

Actually, giving Loki his ointment isn't too difficult, thankfully! All I have to do is put a little on my finger then smear it along the inside corner of his eye. I don't have to actually put it IN his eye! WHEW. The hardest part about the whole thing is catching him. He takes his antibiotic pill like a pro, so other than his propensity to run when we need to catch him, all is good!

What a relief to have a cat that will take pills. I sometimes cut them in half and sneak them into a bit of tuna. Or if I can't be bothered, I just sit astride the cat and shove the pill down. Mine are pretty obliging, especially when I get the pill right in first try.

we've actually had good luck with our cats taking pills. Our old cat, Murphy, who passed away in November, had to have prednisolone pills for 2 years, every other day. He hated them and they were a little bit of a battle, but not too hard. And Scooter (and Crickett to a lesser degree) has asthma and has to have the occasional Brethine pill when he's been coughing a lot. Other than getting a wormer pill when he was a kitten, this is Loki's first adventure with pills, but he's doing great...maybe because these are coated to go down a little easier. And Odin had to have antibiotics and anti-buggy pills and liquids to get rid of his overgrowth of bacteria in his intestines. And let me just say, he did a BAZILLION times better with the pills than the liquids!!

My cat Vila was seriously ill for some weeks. We had to force-feed him a sticky orange stuff that smelt like bubblegum. It wasn't a nice experience - it would bubble out from the sides of his mouth. He looked like a badly-used floorcloth for weeks. He started to recover though. He managed to escape from the basket while Iain was carrying him to the vet for a check-up. We phoned vet to apologise and cancel appointment.
"he must be getting better then," Vet said cheerfully.

I know how that is!! We've had to force-feed Murphy on many occasions and it really is no fun at all! And even down to almost the last minute he'd fight it. We got really familiar with the "wrap 'em in a towel like a burrito" move.

Never really suceeded in efforts to wrap a cat. Suspect it helps either to be shown proper technique, and/or to have two pairs of hands available. I did do it to Skiffle once as a matter of last resort when first three attempts at getting pill down had failed and things were turning nasty. Otherwise I prefer not to bother as business is over quicker and less humiliating for cat. However, sometimes it has to be done.

I still want those black leather gauntlets worn by Avon in the fourth series of "Blake's 7". Cats, for the medication of... especially if, heaven forbid, Heidi is ever ill!

Any good motorcycle shop will stock them, Sarah. Yes, Avon was a biker in his spare time. Nothing with a name as tacky as 'Fireblade', not one of those vast luxury things covered in chrome and nothing as overrated as a Harley Davidson. A BMW might suit his style.

Tricky in those frocks. She might have managed sitting sidesaddle but somehow cannot imagine her holding onto Avon as he drove. Mind you, she'd do anything to save her skin in an emergency.
I can see her now: the elegant off-the-shoulder dress, high-heeled shoes resting daintily on the pegs, and a silver crash helmet with a diamond tiara.

Sorry, been talking to PSD on messenger earlier. This often has a tendancy to result in a rather low frame of mind

You are excused, on the grounds of corruption from another source.

Glad everybody else's innuendo generators finally managed to ketchup with me.

Sorry, sorry. Only gag I could use for sauce...

PS: Skiffle - you're welcome to squeeze my bottle anytime....

PPS: What does everyone reckon in the squeezy bottle vs glass bottle debate?

Depends how easy the bottle is to squeeze. Speaking as someone whose wrists don't work the way they should, I find few things more frustrating than a bottle (or indeed a tube) which is _supposed_ to be squeezy but requires me to stand on the end in order to extract the contents.
