when did you realise you were a grumpy old (wo)man?

Ok, for me it was when I realised that I have never judged how good a weekend was by how little I remember of it due to the consumption of legal (or illegal) substances.........and have never wanted to!!!

When I re-read my posts about New Year's Eve. I seemed to be the only person here who DIDN'T have a good time! (or rather, I did, but I'm not going to tell anyone about it)

It has happened in recent years, possibly something to do with acquisition of husband, mortgage and children and the consequent reduction in disposable income. Oh, and reaching my 30s and being jilted by a metabolism which had seen me through decades of eating and drinking anything I wanted.

(I had a good time on New Year's Eve -- watched Stranger Than Fiction, went to bed early due to pneumonia. Then was woken at midnight by screaming toddler who had been terrified by neighbour's fireworks, so my first word of 2008 is probably best left unrepeated, as I contemplated setting off fireworks at dawn in retaliation.)

I recently had to admit that alcohol consumption makes me sleepless. How weird is it not to be able to sleep off a night of intoxication, instead waking up at six in the morning???

And the young people I don't understand at all tend to be adults with children of their own nowadays.

So... What shall we young and not grumpies chat about?

Now I'm tempted to tell the young'uns to stop loitering around our thread and find someplace of their own to be. And stop wearing such silly clothing. And turn down that "music".

Back to Prinz' comment -- I am with you on the sleepless thing.

Anyway, I'm not Grumpy. I'm more like a cocktail of Dopey and Bashful, with a dash of Doc. On the rocks.

I thought I was getting old when the kids serving in MacDonalds looked too young to be behind the counter.

I'd like to say it was when my hair started to go, but that started when I was sitting my GCSE's so that would be a lie.

I think that by Annie's description, I'm already a grumpy old woman.

I fulfil Annie's description, but that doesn't make me a grumpy old man. It makes me someone who's fond of my memory and knowledge of what happened/feels ill from alcohol before actual drunkedness/memory loss occurs.

No, my deep-rooted cynicism, pessimism and paranoia are what make me a grumpy old man. Sobriety is unrelated.

Last year- when I decided that I'd rather stay home on Saturday night than meet my friends at their tattoo shop & be forced to listen to their loud, obnoxious & over-played music until we could go to a restaurant...

The fact that they wanted to eat somewhere that had nothing but over-priced Waffle House food that I could eat made it a no-brainer!

When I started getting angry at the haircuts of young men. And the wearing of baseball hats at silly angles. And the lack of ability to wear trousers properly.

I don't mind the haircuts. But I do agree, please keep your (trousers) inside the car at all times!

So boys, if you need to leave the car for any reason, make sure you are naked.

Only from the waist down. We haven't any views on shirts.

I've got a shirt with a picture of Hong Kong Harbour on it.

What is this "old"?

Kitten: We can play with building blocks in the corner and stay out of their way?

You made me cough/choke when I read your post Kitten...

I realised I was old when I couldn't relate to my friend's and their obsession with mini skirts and inch thick makeup. Aside from the fact that some strangers the other day had a bet on to see whether I was 13. Only nearly a decade off!
