Fan Fiction Thursday

I'm reading First Among Sequels at this time, I'm on chapter 12 or something (right after the part where she talks to the Pride and Prejudice characters, with their book getting a tune-up), and I started thinking about something I think is a bit interesting, considering one of the books early gimmicks. You know how each Thursday is supposed to be from a different TN book? Like, Thursday5 is from "The Great Samuel Pepys Fiasco," and, I assume, Thursday1 for TEA and so on? Well, that got me thinking: if someone were to write a Thursday Next fan fiction story, which Thursday would go there?

See, these are the kinds of things that keep me up at night. Using Ffordian logic, is every fan fiction character their direct equivalent from the original work, or a different one? And if the latter, then does every individual fan fiction have a different version of the character, even if they're "supposed" to be one and the same, or does the same "generic fan fiction character" handle them all? And, by extension, if a FF is not based on a book, but on a movie or cartoon or TV show or whatever, does that mean that there's a MovieWorld, CartoonWorld, and TVShowWorld to go along with the BookWorld? This baffles me to no end. Personally, though, I think ThursdayX handles all the Thursday Next fan fiction jobs. And I base this on absolutely nothing.

What do you think?

...and, by the way, who's Samuel Pepys? Famous? The name doesn't ring a bell.

Hi Planet Cool. There is a discussion about fan-fiction and how other types of writing (scripts, etc) might operate in Bookworld in the thread called "What's the oldest book you've got?" Click on the '3' in the thread title because it doesn't begin til that page.

Like all good discussions around here, it gets interrupted, diverted, goes off on tangents and finally disappears without resolution. The discussion, appearing as it does in a thread with a title to which it patently bears asolutely no resemblance, is itself - proudly - a tangent.

Veering off on a tangent here, I'm also re-reading FAS and noticed that Thursday (the original) went for a break by wandering through one of Wainwright's guides to the Peaks. Does this mean that Wainwright's guides are partially fiction, since non-fiction was off-limits for bookjumping?

The implication is that the next Next book will involve Thursday1-4 quite a lot. Since this story will itself be published, will there then be a Bookworld version of her? A Thursday(1-4)(1)? Yay, recursion!

Why not a cube with them all facing inwards?

Foiled is good on potatoes, you can then cook them on coals.
