They prefer to be called 'apples of negotiable affection'.

Strangely, that never happens in the boardello- the yelling, I mean-
all topics tend to end up about sex or pie & lately, bacon or platypi-
don't know why...

Just hope there's no more bacon-platypus-chocolate pie floating around!

sorry to take so long to reply: yes, certainly more so than the egg and bacon pie.

But there's plenty of 'Ice pie'.

That's no mint spy, it's the Gary Baldie I lost last October! Darn.

According to Simon Drew , the Collie watching the black sheep is a Shepherd Spy

Is there any objection to actually posting on topic on this thread? Or should I start a new one so it can go off on its own tangent? ;)

I just discovered some Thursday Next fan fiction that is quite good. My favourite is an absolutely hilarious crossover with 'The Lord of the Rings'; Thursday has to fix the book from getting truncated by sending the Eagles to bring the Ring to Mordor. If you've ever been on a Tolkien forum, that is a familiar topic!

The Thursday voice is extremely well done and there are side-splitting references to lots of fun things, like the Badger Song.

Warning - if you object to even a brief mention of love affairs that are not canonical, you may not enjoy the story. However, there is absolutely no offensive material in the story itself.

Here is 'The Eagle Conspiracy': [www.yuletidetreasure.org]

Other TN stories are listed here: [yuletidetreasure.org]

Please use your own judgement concerning the ratings; not all stories listed may be appropriate for you.

Freaking sweet!
I'm not usually a fan-fic er, fan. But that was really rather good!

It was. It was a pretty decent rendering of the style too.

What I would really like to see is Thursday Next crossed over with the "cartoons are people too" universe from Gary K. Wolf's Roger Rabbit novels and short stories, the ones that inspired the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Since Thursday's world is pretty bizarre to begin with, I wouldn't find it hard to believe that people in Hollywood figured out a way to bring animated characters to life decades ago... besides, there are massive inconsistencies between the film and book versions, so that could be an easy plot device. (as in, people warped the story when writing it as a book, like what supposedly happened to The Eyre Affair... the movie could reflect what "really" happened because I happen to like that one more)

But I thought Jasper disliked fan fictions made of his work?

That's why I haven't created any.

Jasper doesn't have to like them for them to exist.

Of course, but if he's personally told us to please not write any, then we should honor that request.

Be that as it may... the Lord of the Rings Thursday story up there is just the best! The Thursday voice was indeed very authentic-sounding, and all the characters, whether they were Jasper's or any other, seemed to behave just the way they would within the Nextian universe. I would complain about an overload of slash, though; I mean, Frodo and Sam I can understand, (we all know something was going down between them, and it was even refreshing to see those rumors as a plot device) but did Legolas and Gimli also need to be implied to be gay lovers? Snow White's evil stepmother does seem as though she might be into the ladies, though.

They must have read The Pencil Show or something like it (tried to find the original for you).

They've just switched on the Hadron Collider, haven't they? Between now and the end of December, anything could happen (other threads holding on to the original subject for as long as this one has, for example)

Yes, threads about pie fights in old black and white movies should thrive more often.

I think they are switching on one beam today, and the other in october.
So my brother is apparently praying for my heathen soul, and I'm waiting to see what dream topping is like.

Dream topping... hmmm. There may actually be something here called dream topping. Being a cultural neophyte means there are areas of ignorance on some of these issues. Angel Delight is good too...

Well, I am more worried about 2012....

The Mayans must know *something* surely?
