Seeing as nobody's mentioned it yet…

Looks like they're filming The Colour of Magic to be shown on Sky One around Easter, at least over on the side of the Atlantic that gets good television. (No, I'm not bitter…)

I wouldn't be bitter. Things made for Sky One tend not to be wonderful.

I think David Jason's playing Rincewind, which is just a bit greedy in my opinion after also having a role in Hogfather. Especially as, if they're going to give the role to someone who has already had a part, Nigel Planer should surely be first choice for Rincewind?? What do you guys think?

That would have been a better choice, I think, especially since Rincewind is supposed to be younger. On the other hand, as much as Nigel Planer's character was like Rincewind, I almost think he was TOO much like Rincewind--slightly more talented, and almost as cowardly.

Anyway, I'm still jealous even though I finally got my hands on the Hogfather DVD.

Darn, I missed this one. Then again, chances are it'll be repeated on BBC7 (digital radio) at a later date - they did Guards Guards a few weeks back, and lots of their broadcasts originated on radio 4. Brill station this - dedicated to the written word in all its forms, with a sci-fi/fantasy hour from 12pm - 1 am each night. Lots of old stuff, like Poe, Austen etc and equally spaced between 'straight forward' readings and dramatisations, often with big names involved. Some of the stuff is pretty creaky, though - the early radio sci-fi is a hoot, definitely warp speed with valves attached, skipper!

I love the old radio dramatisations.

It's 'THEATRE OF THE MIND and allows one to create one's own pictures.

Contemporary radio is, as they said on 'I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again' nearly 35 years ago (sob), Radio Mindless. (They were parodying Radio 1 at the time, I dunno if it's still applicable since John Peel has died, it's probably worse.)

I should like to hear about 2 - 3 hours of the old radio dramatisations, be they SF (Jet Morgan in Journey Into Space), murder mysteries, fantasy, historical, or adaptions of the classics such as by Willie of Avon.

Also bring back replays of Take It From Here, Beyond Our Ken, etc.

All good quality humour without an F word in earshot.

Ah, those were the days.........

Exits to nostalgia, which is neuralgia caused by memory.

Consumes half a 400gm block of Hazelnut chocolate to aid recovery. Saves rest for post recovery stress.

I love the US Old Time Radio that the OTTR produces for download. It's brilliant! Current favourite is (and will be for a while) 'Richard Diamond, Private Detective'.

Ah nostalgia for days never experienced. Bring on the Pringles!

I'd totally mislaid my memory of Richard Diamond. Ah the 60's and probab;y earlier.

Pre 1955 there was 'Speed King - King of Space'

For purest cheesiness check out the original Superman radio serials... sheer madness, but great fun if you can suspend modern cynicism.

They covered it a few months back, but I'm betting it'll get a re-rerun. Haven't tooned in for a while, too busy rediscovering Mouldy and Skuller on Living TV's Hex files reruns.

As a krullian astronomer actually...

That statement is either so deep it would take a lifetime to fully comprehend every particle of its meaning, or it is a load of absolute tosh. Which is it, I wonder?
