Yes, I was sad to hear of his death. I spent (far too) many hours aged 14-16 rolling funny shaped dice etc. This is back in the '70s, when we just used squared paper, dice and lots of imagination. Actually, growing up with Narnia, Earthsea, Conan, LOTR, and lots and lots of SF, I somehow gained the impression that my life would involve rather more battling the forces of Darkness and rather less washing-up. RIP D+D.

That statement is either so deep it would take a lifetime to fully comprehend every particle of its meaning, or it is a load of absolute tosh. Which is it, I wonder?

He was only 5 years older than my dad. That means he was way, way too young.

Don't I remember like it was yesterday when I got an 11 (with 3d6!) and my brother told me to "Stick it in charisma, you want to save the good scores for wisdom and intelligence. Looks don't matter."

Oh, I often quote the time I rolled 18 for charisma! Suffice to say that it proved very useful...

I rolled a score of four once. I stuck it on strength, and unsuprisingly, I was a very short lived Gnomish illusionist.
