Among the better things in the Daily Mail Peterborough page was a word 'game' that readers were invited to send in to. Simply: take a word, change just one letter to make a new word, then give a definition, the sillier the better. Although they started off pretty clever, the offerings got pretty desperate towards the end, which is probably why it stopped. But knowing how clever you lot get when you're bored, I thought it worth resurrecting. New rules - single letter changes aren't the absolute limit, but the new word should still be recogniseable from the old one.
I'll kick off with my three (naturally, 'jazzy' in flavour) All but 1 made up on the spot, which gives an indication of how bored I am this evening:
Peano - Instrument of choice (wooden, naturally) for Mr Reeves.
Trumpit section - as found in colliery bands.
And (my personal favourite): Tromjones - backing horns for Welsh male singers.
All original, and all within Peterborough limits!

Hemanrroids. Painful anal lesions suffered by body-builders.
Assteroids - similar, but suffered by astronauts.
Or astronowts - very poor spacemen from oop North.
When your wife says, "Who was that?" and you say, "A wrong number" the phone says "No it wasn't! His mates just said that there's a session on down at the boozer and for him to sneak out and join them".
Ommlette: A vegetarian egg dish much enjoyed by Buddhist monks.
Carryon Crow: A nightmare for 'twitchers,' on account of its disruptive influence on other, more pigeonically correct, species. Easily recognised by its loud 'Cor!' followed by various other calls such as, 'Big black birds, plenty of breast there then, hur hur,' and: 'Shaven Ravens? Ooh, Matron!'
I'm winning this, aren't I?
