Oooh... Would a mention of pie avert this techno-gibberish?

It depends there are normally two available ATA ports on a motherboard, with a master and a slave on each. Having no jumper set on the drive is normal for a master.

Did someone mention pie?

Apple and blackcurrant pie. Scrummy.

I have not done it for a while either, but am pretty sure a jumper needs to be moved....

... if both drives on one cable and not set to auto, I agree with you.

Make mine chicken and mushroom, whoever has the pie-slice. Thanks

Thank you all for the technical advice.

Anything more than giving it a good hard kick is a talent that we baby boomers lacked as it was not necessary in our formative years. We had valve radios and television did not start until 1956 in Sydney/Melbourne and later in other areas.

Male baby boomers were trying to adjust their hard drives with pictures of Sabrina and Jayne mansfield and by the time technical advances were here they had passed the time of learning new tricks. Besides, thinking of Sabrina and Jayne Mansfield at their peaks is far more satisfying.

I am going to get someone* to try the slave drive trick and copy it all onto memory sticks that hopefully this computer will read.

Not so new Who question:

Iīve just found out that there was a Dr Who Prom concert -did anybody record it from Radio3 or know when it is going to be shown (allegedly) on BBC1 ? (- presumably as a Confidential cutdown version, like the Music and Monsters concert in Cardiff; I donīt expect them to repeat the full concert.)
