Bet you didn't know where the term 'freelancer' originated? Sir Walter Scott coined it in Ivanhoe, to define a mercenary soldier - someone who offered their lance (plus, naturally, themselves at the end of it) to the highest bidder. Hence 'free' (as in, not assigned to any army) 'lancer,' - see?
Oh, you did know that, after all? Smart lot of bar stewards, aren't you?

I found it on a US freelance homewriting website I tripped over, whilst googling for (yawn) boring data entry jobs. I was so impressed, I joined and am currently listening to their overview vid before starting on my first commision - creating a company blog for someone.
At last, I'm being paid for doing things like this.
Funny what turns up.
