In this morning's Observer Review they had the annual 'what celebs are taking to read on their hols' faeture, and it was the usual collection of heavy intellectual tomes (when you just know they're really taking a John Grisham) and pimping their mates' books, but, Sandi Toksvig gave high praise to WOLP. I always did think she was a nice person.

Gratifyingly large display in Waterstones Manchester yesterday, too, both inside and out, but no sign of movement on the bestsellers lists yet (no sign of anything much except JKR, actually. At least we shan't have that competition next July).

And, has anyone else put up a review on Amazon? Mine hasn't appeared as of yet, and I wondered if there were any others lurking under the surface.
Yes, of course I gave it 5 stars.

I haven't picked up on any reviews yet, but I'll keep alert for them. btw I like Sandi Toksvig too, recently read one of her books which I didn't have much expectations of but was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. My liking stems purely from my viewing of 'Number 73' on long ago Saturday mornings. Its a pity she didn't become the new Oxford Uni Chancellor, that would've been interesting.

I hope your review turns up at Amazon, I wasn't planning on writing one. I did write one for a cookery book a couple of weeks ago, but it never has materialised.

Sandy was always great on "Call my Bluff" too ... All those big weird words (And Gail Porter was on the other week).

Umm ... to drag my mind away from that one, I wrote a review for Amazon and it's not turned up either. I wrote one before ages ago for something else and it never turned up, so I'm not expecting this one to either.

Hope you have better luck!

Having read her books, met and corresponded with her, I can vouch that Sandi is lovely and obviously has immense good taste.

I always liked Sandi Toksvig, from when she was occasionally on Whose Line Is It Anyway. I even watched that dodgy sitcom she was in with Mike McShane.

PSD, I've got a list of references, but atm it's still in dead tree format. I'll pass it on once it's on computer...

Yes, despite being lampooned by Mayall and Edmondson (well, not so much lampooned as insulted), Sandi has always been one of the good guys; behaved with great dignity when outed by some grubby little hack, been on isihac and Time Team, and of course provided much entertainment as Ethel on the otherwise dire no. 73. Anyone remember the Sandwich Quiz? Milligan was on once ... he corpsed her by saying 'I'll have some of what she's on!'

Getting back to the subject, there is a terrific review of WOLP in Time Out and it's also their book of the week/month/whatever!

And it's number 10 in the Original Fiction listings in the Sunday Telegraph and the Bookseller ........... and I didn't have to swindle the figures at all, honest!

HURRAH!

Whoever was after reviews, there's now one on Amazon - pretty good it is too. Not by any of us lot either (unless it's a pseudonym).

Just got an Email from Amazon encouraging me to buy WOLP. Only a week and a half late guys !! Anyway, it's 30% off if you want to buy those extra copies to bombard your friends and relatives...
