had had had had...

Hello, I'm new here but a big fan of Jasper and TN. Just thought I'd say hello and that i'm looking forward to the Leeds book signing tonight.

Has anyone discussed the 'had had had had' paragraph here, I thought it was amazing?!!

Anyway, just wanted to say hi, oh and I don't know what the password is. I forgot to look for it when reading WoLP and even the hints aren't hepling. I'm rubbish at rtemembering what i've just read.

J.

Welcome Jonty!
I loved the 'had had' paragraph - I remember doing it at school when I was 12, but had completely forgotten about it until WOLP.
I think the best hints for the password are in the 'password' thread (try reading PSD's post out loud...) Thursday is given the same password herself to get into a special area.

Hi Jo, nice to meet you. I'm still none the wiser on the Passwork front....I'll have to go back to the book, it's gonna take me hours...

You learn about it just before you meet Perkins...

And it is one half of a (British) TV time/crime duo with Joanna Lumley in it, based on the "heavy elements". The series ended with them floating off into space in a cafe...

Thank you Jo! I'm sure I would have got the PW but trawling back through the book for it would have taken ages.

Lucky old Portugal! (You missed a right load of rubbish, Carla, believe me).

I also like

That that is, is.
That that is not, is not.
That that is not, is not that that is.
That that is, is not that that is not.

As a corollary

That ‘that that is, is’, is.
That ‘that that is not, is not’, is.
That ‘that that is not, is not that that is’ is.
That ‘that that is, is not that that is not’ is.

KT: Why do I suspect that you've done some kind of maths nonsense at some point ??

My husband's got a PhD in Maths, does that count?

Ouch, that wasn't meant to be a pun.

I've just noticed that; that 'that that is not, is not that that is not' is not.

Oh, for shame, Jon! 'Password and Steel' was a fine upstanding fantasy show, even if it did exhibit the apparent influence of the happy-weed.

KT: Not sure that it really counts - they're ten a penny these days. They even gave me one ! However it does explain things. (He wasn't at Leeds Maths dept in the early 90's by any chance was he ?)

Password and Steel was bobbins! It annoyed me right from the off because neither password nor steel are elements, for GSD's sake. And then the plots never made any sense whatever. I gave up on it very early. I mean, I like ogling la Lumley as much as the next man, but there's a limit, you know.

Ah. I wouldn't know him them. I applied to Warwick both for undergrad and PhD. My mate who went there enjoyed himself but I was put off PhD by David Rand who 'interviewed' me - asked me a couple of questions while reading other stuff, very off-putting...

Pretty sure you're not married to him as I met his wife Vicki (independently through the OU) and she was charming. Other people tell me David's a very good lecturer so I guess I got a bad day.

Well, sure, Jon, if you're going to make a fuss about little things like *facts*... :p

OK, it was factually ropey, the titles were incredibly cheesy, and the stories didn't let a little thing like sense stand in their way, but it was innovative! And fun! And Joanna Lumley, man! Joanna Lumley!!
