I was thinking.....

(never a good thing actually) I know that there is a U shortage, but does anyone know about the interchangeable z's and s's?
Is there some sort of exchange program going on here? We'll take your z's if you take our s's?

They even change the title of HP1 because they don't know what a philosopher is!! :-)

Is that right?... I was under the impression that the 'philosophers stone' was the problem rather than the philosopher himself...

... although I can see someone who spends all his time thinking would be alien to merkins... or indeed someone who thinks at all...

That statement is either so deep it would take a lifetime to fully comprehend every particle of its meaning, or it is a load of absolute tosh. Which is it, I wonder?

It was, in fact, the specific mythical artifact that was relatively unknown to Americans, not philosophers in general.

(P.S. Some of the 'merkins around here are well read enough to know what the word merkin actually means.)

Excuse me, but please don't lump us Canadians in with Americans when it comes to spelling .... we use the correct spelling (British), dontcha know. North America != USA.

And, it was HP and the PHILOSOPHERS Stone here, thank you very much.

Hoping a smily isn't need here either, but throwing one in for the hell of it anyways :-)

Sorry to any Canadians offended. We love you all.

No offense taken Sarah. Canadians are traditionally very spiky on being confused with Americans ... I was trying to make a joke about that as much as anything else :-)

Good good.

By the way - question to all Canadians. What's good to see in Vancouver and Toronto?

(don't want to bore the non-Canadians and such) ...

In American English, the suffix -ize is used for all words like realize, civilize and jeopardize.

The -ize suffix can also be used in British English, but -ise is widespead and common.

There is another group of words which end in -ise, no matter which side of the Atlantic you are on: advertise, advise, apprise, chastise etc.

Capsize is spelt the same everywhere.

Good luck !
