No, No...Thurs was born on a Thursday, her mother , Wednesday, was born on a Sunday and Anton was born on a Monday. We don't know about Joffy and of course her father was never born at all. Neither were her husband or grandfather. Ah, SO-12, our favourite team of law enforcers. Did I mention my sister has a near eidetic memory?

"Neither were her husband or grandfather"

well her husband WAS born. he just died at the age of two.

I thought it was spellt out quite plainly the number of children that Thursday will have. but I don't want to spoil the surprise later on if you haven't figured it out.

so Thursday's Gran is called Tuesday, her mum is Wednesday... clearly the first female child's going to be Friday, right?

Cue lots of Girl Friday jokes. I've noticed there seems to be a disproportionate number of references to Robinson Crusoe as it is...

I think her son is a boy:
Spoiler beware:

I'm assuming it was the one with lavoisier at the wedding, who tells her to dissuade him from joining?

Yeah, I got that one. I was just assuming that naming girls after days of the week is something of a Next family tradition.

...somewhat akin to the Hades naming tradition.

True, but Jasper has mentioned that to him Thursday is obviously a girl's name, but Friday is a boy's.

That seems slightly weird to me, considering the putative genders of the two deities after whom those particular days are named...

Thor and Freda, right? Just like Wednesday is Woden's day?

Anyone read American Gods...?

Ah, but a certain well known shipwreck novel, Friday was a boy.

I read American Gods and thought it was great. I have been on hold with my library for some time for The Well of Lost Plots. Has it not been published yet?

well, I can put the question to rest...if you read the synopsis for Something Rotten, we find that Thursday's baby is a.....

(drumroll please)

(SPOILER COMING...)

(STILL COMING...Wait for it now....)

(TURN BACK if you don't want to know!)

SON!

thats a good point, like in memory of him?

I don't think Thursday's Gran is called Tuesday, and I hope Wednesday wasn't a Next before she married Thursday's father, who was.

All this debate is interesting but slightly misses the point that Thursday's children won't be Nexts they will be Parke-Laines and therefore the Next family history is sort of irrelevent!

..but having siad tht Thursday's Mum wasn't a Next till she got married - so who knows! (anyone know her maiden name btw?)

Strikes me that the bit at the end of TEA with the "familiar" ChronoGuard tagging along behind Lavoisier was so obviously their son that it constitutes no kind of spoiler to bring it up now!

You can see Thursday's family tree at [www.thursdaynext.com]. It includes her mum's maiden name, which appears to be Hoarsposture.

Re: April Next in the family tree
Surely this is the sister of Thursday's father not of Mycroft - she was born when the ChronoGuard foiled her father's conception by a knock at the door.

As thursdays father is mycrofts brother she is the sister to both, which is why the line runs all the way across.
