Waiting for Chuzzlewit

I've just been re-reading TEA and on page 210 (UK paperback edition)
we have Victor Analogy saying
'Imagine Martin Chuzzlewit without Chuzzlewit!'....'The book would end within a chapter. Can you imagine the other characters sitting around, waiting for a lead character who never appears? It would be like trying to stage Hamlet without the prince!'

*Or Waiting for Godot perhaps?*

Wasn't sure whether to post this on the TEA fforum or here, so apologies to anybody who thinks it's in the wrong place, but I figured it could just about be a possible spoiler to anybody who has read TEA but not WOLP.

Doesn't become particularly significant until one has read the latter anyway.
