Am I the only one who was slightly disappointed by the fact that Colonel Next is now a legit ChronoGuard official?????? I don't know about anyone else, but I rather liked him as "a time-traveling knight errant...." After this book though, with all its paradoxes, I sort of agree with Fforde that time travel is a difficult subject to deal with..... Any other opinions?????

Well, we meet him at all sorts of ages anyway, so he was totally legit at some time or another, so nothing much has changed. It now sets up all sorts of playthings for Mr Ff - not least the idea of a legit Co. Next persuing the non-legit version....

This is the work of an Italian narco-anarchic collective. Don't bother insulting them, they can't read English anyway.
The fact that its a younger clnl Next (probably not a Cnl or cln, and definitely not a colon) implies that its before he went rouge (or went rouge), but chronologically its afterwards.
Hmm, interesting thought on teh lack of revisionists. Also, to be pendantic, it was Captain Next, he was demoted after returning. So we do know he returns, he says so. And we kinda know he doesnt hunt himself because Friday is with Levoisier (dont have teh book in front of me so dont tell me I spelled the name wrong) and Friday comments about it at the wedding. Which leads to all sorts of interesting questions as to how the heck that works out. Because Friday's obviously working with his grandad in TN4 but against him in TN1. I think I'm just going to have to use Jasper's very own bloophole panacea and say I'm being too linear. Ah well, copout excuses are so nice sometimes.

Interesting thought. I like that. But then why is he so upset about being in chronoguard in TN1? Double agent life sounds exciting. Maybe I've just overconfused myself, or he's just sick of it. I'd like to meet grown-up Friday for real.
