I am working in Hinckley (Home of the Hansome Cab) today so I stayed in a hotel last night and nearly managed to finish the book before several large ports and the absence of two small children sent me off to sleep.
Unwisely I decided to read the final chapter of Something Rotten in the carpark at the site before I went to work.
Two months ago I sat by my Gran's bed and held her hand while she died. She was my best friend, a sharp savvy woman who kept one of the sharpest minds I have ever met hidden in the body of a frail white haired old lady thus allowing her to ambush unwary junior doctors and door to door politicians. We knew each other as well as any two people can and talked about everything and anything from politics to global warming to the extreme bad fortune of an innocent baby having to have either Tracy Barlow or Roy and Hayley as parents.
I am now sat at my desk red eyed and trying not to set off crying again.
I'm so sorry that you have lost such a good friend in your Gran. It must have been difficult reading those last few pages. Whilst it's hard to find anything to say that doesn't sound horribly trite, you sound as if you have some great memories to cherish.
I have also just finished the book and after reading the final chapter (which also brought a tear to my eye) I am left feeling that it was the end. It felt final. Goliath have pretty much been thwarted, Granny Next finished her sentence and we kinda know how Thursday's life pans out. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease tell me I am wrong. I love these books and will be v sad if there aren't to be any more.
Who were the Havishams that turned up?
Or the fat man with a cigar?
What eventually happens to Lavoisier?
Granny Next had three children - who will the third be?
Thursday killed three Hades - so far, there's only Acheron gone (also, Gran never explicitly says that Aornis gets killed...)
---
Those who forget the pasta are doomed to reheat it.
What are Jack Schitt, Brik Schitt, Felix8, Hobbes, Aornis, Harris Tweed, Stricknene, Fausten Gayle (possibly some more baddies I've forgot, including the pro crimean gut in TEA) gonna be doing now, and is getting vengeance on thursday on their "to do" list?
I'm sure some of these have left the scene somehow. But most of them are still at large.

You never know. The toast marketing board could turn evil.

The inimical is often more instructive than the benign.
So between screams, try to pay attention.

Umm, to be annoying, you could count Styx as the third Hades. Although I would like to see a character named Pleghethon make an appearance. And perhaps the name of shakespeare's (or shgakespeafe's) bagged commodities was the toast marketing bard. You never know!
Yes he was....so possibly, doesn't Thurs. still have to battle Aornis...I mean, she beat the mindworm...but isn't the real AH still out there doing something (ANYTHING!!!)? Oh, well. Or perhaps not. Or, as it has been thouroughly speculated, this post is just more mindless ranting.
Best Regards,

PS. I tend to lean towards the latter.
