I received it the last week, but haven't taken the time to read it yet.

I ordered from the Goliath Corporation, and it's amazing how these huge multinationals work. Much cleaner and nicer than the cloying familiarity of Amazon and the like.

I received a new kindle (paperwhite) at the same time, and I must say that in may ways I actually prefer reading on that. But the flipback book appears to work just as advertised. Page turning is even faster than on the kindle, and the contrast is higher. The drawback is that there's no backlight, but at the same time the battery life is unbeatable.

I was a bit surprised at the font though. The font used here is Fedra sans, or something very similar to it:
.

I have to wonder if this was chosen specifically for the flipback, to give increased legibility at reduced size, or if someone (at Hodder?) decided that 'sci-fi' needs a futuristic font.

Apparently the Shades of Grey is available in 'flipback' format. Does anyone have any experience with this format?

I just ordered one, and I hope to receive it before I leave on holidays in a couple of weeks. It looks like it's just the right size to slip unobtrusively in a pocket.

It's been about a year since I last bought a paper book, but my kindle is on the blink, and I won't receive the new 'paperwhite' for another couple of weeks, so I figured I might as well give the format a chance.

It contains most of the stuff that is also on Mr. Ff's own page, and one information that was new to me: dates for the book tour in November. He will appear in Frankfurt, Bochum and Berlin and get on stage together with Oliver Rohrbeck, a very well known voice actor and audio book speaker. So finally I will be able to meet him life!

Bad news about all this is that the publishers, Eichborn, have entered administration in June. Lets hope they survive - not only because of Jasper Fforde, but for all their other great authors.

It's embarrassing to admit that although I did "Sleuth", and worked out the train journey (and even visited the various stops when I was on holiday there earlier this year) I've only just latched onto Persimmon-on-River - so obvious when you point it out!

I went there as well - it was a rainy day, and what better to do on a rainy day...? ;-)

Hi Zranoll, welcome.

My guess (and purely my guess!) is that there are too many colours for all to be given a social status and orange would be just part of the spectrum seen by some reds as a yellowy red and by some yellows as a reddish yellow.

If you have looked round here at all you will know that refreshments can be found in Nextian Chat. I think the tea trolley is by the treehouse. The pie table is somewhere near the panto auditions just now.(for anyone reading this at a later time it may not still be there.)

I loved this book, but either I completely missed something or the Oranges are not in it all. We all know that red and yellow (primaries) make orange. Are red and yellow forbidden to mate? Are they a clan that hides in the shadows? Why weren't they discussed?

Also on a side note what is the official standing in social society. I know greys are on bottoms, purples are on top and that the secondary are above primary. with yellow above red. Was the official order in the book and yet again I missed it or was it something we have to figure out? I think I know what it is but not completely sure. Also where does Orange lie on the list?
