The thread was because the 23rd was St George's Day, patron saint of England (& Portugal, Cyprus, Greece, Georgia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia). He is also patron saint of Moscow, Genova, Ljubljana & Beirut amongst others.
Geg had written that the dragon would not remember SG, but the book refutes that: dragons refer to all humans as "Georges", perhaps because sometime in their past a human called George helped them....................
The book is o.k. as a stand-alone, but unfortunately the author later expanded it into a series and, please note this is my opinion, nothing to do with anyone else, the series went rapidly downhill.
However, if you can find it, "The Flying Sorcerers" by Larry Niven is a book well worth reading that has almost nothing to do with Saint George, England or JFf.
