I saw some reference to a skull on the idiot box which was accompanied by text indicating that Thylacine are not extinct>
When we were in Tasmania about a decade ago staying at a motel in the forest we were asked that if we saw anything like a thylacine 'to keep our mouths shut about it' as if the creatures had survived they certainly did not need a vast contingent of photographers, miscellaneous lurkers (not Somerset dogs) and poachers invading their territory.
The locals felt it better that they should remain undisturbed and unexploited.
