Hello Betsy

Just how is the Battenberg?

To all the folks who went, remember the GPS watch from Mycroft's Shed, well take a look at this article from the Monday edition of The Daily Mail.

I (Betsy) spent quite some time on my computer graphic of Battenberg, but I have never actually made such a cake. I saw my first-ever Mr. Kiplings Battenberg in a giant Tesco market just about a month ago. It was one of those things (George Formby being another) that I thought maybe Jasper Fforde had just invented.

England has so many delicious dessert-things that Americans don't know the names of, including Battenberg, Eccles cakes, Bakewell tarts, and sticky toffee pudding.

But I digress. I recommend store-bought Battenberg although I'm sure that homemade, if I ever get to taste it, would be even better.

Welcome, Betsy!

help yourself to pie - sweet to the left, savoury to the right as is usually sometimes the case.

(I will also take a modest bow for the GPS-NSR watch. Without any satellite required it is always 100% accurate!)

Hi Betsy! Glad you liked the Battenburg - it is very delicious.

You lucky b*ggers in the Northern Hemisphere. You can throw a party and no one has to travel more than 500 miles to get there.

Down here if BK threw an open party Robert would have about 300 miles to travel, I would have about 600, and our Bananabender fforumites would travel around a 1000 miles, all of these being one way. And Martin would have to start swimming now for the 2011 party.

So we of the open spaces congratulate you on what must have been a wonderful time (read this in green) and have put in a request for the Gravitron tubes to be implemented post haste.

Eccles cakes! I love those! Although, I tend to associate them with the goon show character...

I had something very similar (it was much like a Roman scroll) when we went to Italy in the mid 1960s. The RAC created a set of long thin pages of the route which I turned into a one long scroll. It got us all the way from Barking to Lido de Jesolo and back. Glad to see that relevant technology can still be found and used.

It is always good to meet a friendly face at the start.
You feature somewhere in my photographic montage of the event.
I'm still working my way through the images but I have uploaded some for your enjoyment.

Well thank you gentlemen, I aim to please, and I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves.

Steeljam, the dodo is but 10 feet away from me and is missing your attentions, any time you feel like feeding her, I'm sure she would welcome your return!

Hi sillypunk help yourself to pies. Drinks trolley seems to have gone missing, but I am sure it will turn up eventually.

Can I inform all of the new posters (and remind some of the crusties) that I will happily add anyone to the birthday list if they drop me the relevant info either on the Happy Birthday thread or via p.m.

Hi, all!

Just thought I'd drop a quick note before I fly back to the USA. I had a FANTASTIC time at the Ffiesta, and a wonderful time seeing London this past week. I'm really glad that I took the extra time this year - and God must be, too, 'cause the weather has been beautiful!

"Will" had a great time seeing Ye Olde Sodde as well (I think he meant that he was glad to be on English Soil again...)

Looking forward to the next one, though I hope there is enough time to save up, since its only next year.

A great big Thank You to the FForganizers and Jasper for making it another memorable experience!
