<HTML>Love "The Purple Rose of Cairo"!! I just saw it for the first time recently, and "all this" was the first thing I thought of!
However, that movie was not Woody Allen's first venture into fiction jumping. He wrote a short story called, "The Kugelmass Episode" that featured a jr. college literature professor in a crappy marriage who found out about this book dealer who had a contraption that could send him into a book. He chose "Lady Chatterly's Lover" (all the funnier that Thursday's father was also "involved" with her!) Then all hell broke loose! She came back to the real world with him for a while, he put her up in a posh hotel, etc and she was very high maintenance and clingy. In trying to send her back into the book, he becomes trapped elsewhere and is forever tormented by "things" in the new book. (I don't want to give it all away. Just wanted to whet your whistle a little to get you to try to find it!) It's a really funny story, and even though I'm not the biggest Woody Allen fan (I find him too neurotic) I loved this story!
Somewhere in my papers, I have a spoof of that story that we had to write for a literature and creative writing class I took in college. Mine featured a guy who was in love with Peppermint Patty and had to deal with her being in love with "Chuck". I won't tell any more of it because if I find it, I'll post it! My instructor LOVED it!
