I tooked the test :o) My IQ was 134. Yay! I'm sure that's higher than last year, too.

I'd guess everyone on here is above average IQ...and somewhere off on a tangent, too.

Yeah I was OK in numbers too. I found the visualisation bit quite hard.

Hmmm....only got a 116 on the test, which is lower than I usually score. Then again, there were 3 where I ran out of time just as I was clicking the answer, and one of those resulted in clicking the wrong answer on the following question instead.

I also had difficulty deciding where I was geographically, since none of the choices were even close to applying. And I had to do more math to figure out my income range....

(Usually on IQ tests I'm between 130 and 140)

Just got 128...of course, that UK phone q stumped me. Where *is* the zero?

Yep, I had no clue either, having never seen a UK phone, except on TV where you can't see the numbers.

I got 140, I was stunned, expected 116-118 which is what I had on the other online one I took

Just retook it (after using google to discover that I'd guessed right on where the 0 was on the phone after all) and got 140.

Mind you, I got all 12 right on the memory part this time when I'd gotten one wrong last time, so that's cheating a bit, but I also got 11/12 on the numbers this time instead of 8 the first, simply because I knew I needed to work faster, and didn't accidentally click the wrong answer on one of them before I'd even read the question (as I did last time). And I didn't have my mum shouting for me to come take out the trash, which also helped.

On a related note, during a counseling session during my parents divorce, I said that I felt that my father didn't view me as being as smart as my younger brother.

(My brother was the kind of kid who was ostentatiously smart, while I was quietly smart - in fact, several weeks in, my kindergarden teacher caught me reading the teacher's instructions on the handouts they gave me to color, and excitedly called my mother to tell her I was reading. Mom was already well aware of this, since I'd taught myself to read at age 3, and was already writing short stories about "Billy and Girly". Turned out, when they tested me I was reading at 2nd grade level.)

At any rate, when I made that claim, dad denied this, and mentioned that when we were both given intelligence tests in grade school we'd both been in the 140s, and Marc was only a few points higher than me.

Mom pointed out that actually, I'd been a few points higher than my brother had. They'd been testing to see it we qualified for the TAG (Talented And Gifted) program at the school, and while my brother had been pegged for it immediately, they'd only tested me because they did siblings automatically. So the fact that I'd actaully come out a few points higher was amusing enough to be memorable.

In any case, the fact that dad misremembered it rather proved my point....

Last time I took an IQ test I got 165. But, to be honest, it doesn't really mean a lot above about 140. I'm probably not the brightest person here.

It's OK, Jon. If it's over 200, you can tell us. We won't feel inferior...

er ... I can't get good scores on these things, actually. Hopeless with numbers, lousy short-tern memory, feeble slow reaction time. I avoid them like a cliche meaning something you avoid a lot, because I get such low scores it depresses me.

My point about the unreliability of IQ tests is therefore proved!

Jon, the "appearance" of having a high IQ is actually more useful than the actual numbers anyway. Some people just don't test well, especially under pressure. I usually do okay but I've never taken a "real" IQ test anyway.

My brother is classified as a genius (not sure what his numbers are) but he used to be in MENSA and all that. I don't need numbers to tell me I'm intelligent! My lack of paycheck and motivation already tell me that!

My ex was in Mensa, I used to read the magazines. Didn't inspire me to join, frankly... not too exciting.

I surprised myself with a score of 135. Which was 10 more than Kate. I was insufferable for the rest of the evening.

All it proves, imho, is that I'm better at doing that kind of test than she was. I got all my extra points on the mental arithmetic bit.

It wasn't ideal, for various reasons... in a real test you get just an overall time to do it in, rather than a time for each question, which means you can spread your time the way you want to - giving yourself more time for the mental arithmetic, for example!

I wasn't convinced by the age bias thingy, either - it meant that the highest possible score for my age group - 21-35 - was 142, whereas 70+s could get up to 157. Which seems odd.

Wouldn't dream of joining MENSA. I don't need anyone to encourage me to be an intellectual snob - it's something I'm trying to deal with!

Hmm... Just had a pop. I grow increasingly impatient with these things (partly cos there's work stuff I need to do for exams at 2:00. I really should write the thing soon !) Somehow I managed to get my lowest score (8/12) on maths !

Did far worse than Dave overall, that's all I'm prepared to say.
