Coincidentally, for those in Oz, John Cargher has just died, aged 89. He retired last week after presenting 'Singers of renown' for 40 years, and also 'Music for pleasure' for who knows how many years.
Like Humph, he had a sense of humour, but was exceedingly dry, and I, for one, will miss his programs.
We are poorer for the passing of people such as these - full of knowledge, erudite and informative.
Hmm. I've been thinking about Celestial ISIHAC and in terms of linguistic ability I would say Ronnie Barker. He wasn't known as an improviser though, more of a scripted performer.
