so that explains the scratches I've got on my arm...
Actually, this is the first I've heard of it, but it does seem strangely typical of Evesham somehow. I've just Googled it and got the following:
==============================
LONDON (Reuters) - An angry domesticated badger savaged five people, leaving one man so seriously injured he needed skin grafts, and chased away pursuing police officers during a 48-hour rampage through a quiet English town.
One-year-old Boris launched what experts described as unprecedented attacks after finding himself hungry, alone and frightened after being stolen or released from a wildlife visitor center where he had been hand-reared and hand-fed.
"I have been involved with badgers for 24 years and I have never heard of anything like this, nor has anyone I have spoken to," Mike Weaver, chairman of the Worcestershire Badger Society told Reuters on Tuesday.
Weaver was brought in by police to catch Boris, who had bitten the five victims' arms and legs after getting loose near Evesham, Worcestershire, in central England.
The officers themselves had been chased onto the bonnet of their car as they tried to round up Boris, who was later put down.
Weaver said badgers were notoriously powerful animals and the incident showed the folly of trying to turn wild animals into pets
=======================
The image of five police officers trapped on the bonnet of a squad car by and angry badger is going to keep me laughing all day... As is the quote from another news story saying it 'was like something out of a horror movie'. Wrong - it's like something out of Monty Python....

what? How can anyone disbelieve in badgers, for GSD's sake. I mean, it's not something one can have an opinion about, like Nessie or little green men or the existence of T*m H*lt's brain ... badgers just are. One slept on me on a train once. Snored summat terrible, it did.

Angry mutterings at the fact that Boris was "put down" just because he bit a few people. Mutter, grumble, snarrl. The incident wasn't HIS fault... How would YOU react if somebody dumped YOU in a strange town's suburbs where nobody spoke your language and nobody offered you a meal? :-(
It would explain quite a lot, to be honest. I've never been savaged by a badger, but I've been charged by one (and it's much more terrifying than it sounds). As far as I know, the people round here are perfectly normal, although they look a little like they've just walked off the set of LOTR.

I've seen a badger disembowel a hedgehog and it was not a pretty sight. I could hear an awful noise at 4 in the morning and I thought a fox may have got our rabbit. I looked out the window to see the badger put it's paws into the soft part of the hedgehog, I ran out to see if I could chase it off. Only to see it eating it and hearing it crunching up the poor creature.
I'm not surprised. I had to study a load of skulls during my first year, and was always struck by how 'aggressive' the skull of a badger is. They're not just built for eating fruit and insects, you know.
The whole way of thinking about animals as 'carnivores' or 'herbivores' is just so false anyway. Wolves eat berries if they're about, rabbits eat carrion. Sheep were recently proved to eat grouse chicks. All animals eat all sorts of stuff, they just lie somewhere on a line between all-plants and all-meat.
