I haven't started a thread recently

So I thought I would now.

You know the link for the Birmingham Science Fiction Group on Jasper's Appearance page? Well can anyone else get it to work? Because I can't.

If there's anyone that can could you either:

1. Tell me what it says about Jasper's appearance.
2. E-mail me a html copy of the page.
3. Laugh and feel superior because you're more fortunate than I am.

Of course I'd prefer if you did 1 or 2, but if 3 grabs your fancy as well then I'm not gonna stop you.

Ta.

By the way, I'm back now that Harry Potter and exams are over. Only got the re-reads to do now. And maths coursework. Oh heck.

Birmingham Science Fiction Group Meetings

11th July 2003 Jasper fforde
Meeting to be held on the first floor of the Old Joint Stock, Colmore Row West, in the city centre

That's all it says. Nothing about time or minor details like that.
The page is in the mail, so to speak - hope this helps.

Milo

P.s. Welcome back

Ben, :-P.

And that's all I have to say to you.

Thanks Milo. I got it earlier, and I've sent you a reply. I see what you mean about how terribley useful it is...

That reminds me of a song someone once told me about... terribly ungrammatical, but definitely memorable. The lyric in question went:

"I would have wrote you a letter,
But I couldn't spell [insert raspberry noise here] and that's all I had to say."

Sometimes if a page from somewhere won't load due to a faulty link, it's worth Googling it. If it's been removed (or your browser has a problem with it still) you can use Google's cached copy to find what you need. Not useful in this case, but useful to know...

I knew, and I tried, but unfortuneately Google didn't know so it wasn't all that helpful.

And Sarah, that was my sentiment, yes.

Sarah: the song in question is "Couldn't spell !!**?!" by the Barron Knights, on the 'Knights of Laughter' album. It's a mock-country song.

I recognised it because I've got it on an elderly cassette, issued by Pickwick !

Oh, I love them - they also did "Heaving on a Jet Plane", which was brilliant!

I've got the album that's on too. But I'm only confessing to owning 2 Barron Knights records; mostly because it's true.

It also sounds remarkably similar to the Raspberry Song by Spike Milligan. Alas, I only have the sheet music and words and not the LP/tape.

I've got a tape or two by the Barron Knights somewhere in my collection... H'mm, maybe I'll dig it/them out of the stacks at some point during this Summer & listen to them again.

The who?

Not as in 'The Who' obviously, because that would be silly...

A very funny group of musical parodists. Think of them as a version of Jon who got somewhat famous!

Do you mind. I can sing lots better than they ever could. And quite frankly I aim for higher targets than the bloody Smurfs. I prefer to think of myself as more like Flanders and Swann ..... or the film parodies they used to do in Round the Horne (starring ageing juvenile Binkie Huckaback).

Come on, it wasn't just the Smurfs. "Heaving on a Jet Plane" was a classic of its kind... in fact I like it a great deal better than the original song!

Actually, I think of you as the Frank Muir of the Fforum, but without the moustache and the outrageous bow tie, of course...

What about the dental parody on 'Rivers of Babylon'? (Remembers vague fragments that seemed funny at the time).

Jon - And Dame Celia Molestrangler, don't forget. We've tapes of the stuff which we take to France and laugh ourselves silly whilst driving down the autoroutes. Only Bill Pertwee left now - very sad.

Did you know that Kenneth Horne died whilst at the Variety Club awards on 14 Feb 1969 - he'd given an award and then collapsed, dead. That was it. Very sad.

One of the funniest things I've seen was a sketch from the TV show "Naked Video" - that's the show that gave us Rab C Nesbitt. Anyway, the cast of the show are on a plane, playing the stewardess and passengers - but they're they're all talking "chicken". Gregor Fisher (who was also Rab) played a character scared of flying and is so scared he has an 'accident'! Can't really describe it in writing but very funny.
