Sarah:
The pun gun won't relieve your pain,
For Jo is absent - let's explain:
Her room's been cleared, to make life easy,
Her mother's ta'en away her PC.

Jo's staying at my accomodation
Until she's been through graduation
But in the interim, I fear,
She won't be posting so much here.

Hmm, Rupert the Bear. And odd that someone should mention Cthulhu - I drew a cheeky crossover between the two, to entice new students into the Science Fiction Society last year. 'The Doom That Came To Nutwood', it was called. I made up little rhyming couplets and everything - "His sanity is forfeit now; Rupert Bear goes mad - and how!" I probably ought to be ashamed, but I'm strangely proud of it.

I was asked to do Jeeves and the Call of Cthulhu, but had to decline as my Lovecraft isn't up to it.

Um, you know what I mean.

I once wrote an article, for an amateur magazine about roleplaying games, in which I "explained" how the adventures of Winnie the Pooh are actually a bowdlerised view of the Cthulhu Mythos.

Rupert / Cthulhu - fantastic!

No complaint, Dante; I would have been Dave if Dave hadn't been Dave, and what I will be at Leeds is anybody's guess.

Sarah claims I am now the 'Lord of the Things', after requesting she get me the 'things on top of the things with things on them'.

As for 'Granny Weatherwax' thongs ---

Dave; you can be Dave, Dave, because Dave isn't going to be there. Or you can be Medium Dave, if you like.

You can be Dave anyway. We can call t'other Dave, Fred to avoid confusion.
It's worked before...

Simon - I'm shocked (and delighted) - Pooh and Cthulhu (Cthupooh?)! How'd that work out?

Jon - I believe there's a Jeeves/Cthulhu novel out there, called "Scream For Jeeves". Sadly I've been unable to track it down. There's still room for more, though!

People keep talking about this Cthulhu thing... I just went out for a wander and looked for lovecraft books in the oxfam bookshop, but there weren't any. Hmm.

And I got a card for my brother's graduation that says "Well done. You have done very well but please do not do it again because it makes me look bad." Heh.

Well, it's getting increasingly easy to find Lovecraft's work, thanks to a surge of interest from the literary mainstream. Penguin have released one or two collections of his short pieces as 'Classics', can you believe it. Kind of takes the edge off it.

I periodically see bumper stickers on cars reading:

Cthulu for President
When you're tired of choosing the Lesser Evil

Simon: do you still have 'Cthupooh'? I'm sure I'm not alone in being intrigued enough to read it...

Dave: Feel free to be Dave, as I won't be there, as Rob (not Dave) has pointed out. I'll still be the original Dave, but we could try confusing Jasper. See if he'll sign your book 'To Dave (not Dave)'

Still undecided on whether to pressgang someone into getting my copy signed. Seems a bit of a cop out, not being there.

Yeah, I've seen the books in a few places. Forbidden Planet has them. But there are very few books I'll actually pay full price for... most of the time it has to be *at least* 3 for 2. Might try amazon marketplace, now I come to think of it...

Dave (not Dave), I'm going to call you Rainbow, I think....if that's alright, of course!

so long as you don't call me late for dinner, I won't mind. ;-)

I got my cthulhu books years ago, 3 volumes of lovecraftian madness. Strange in that the stories are quite terse, but still atmospheric.

Anyone played the Call of Cthulhu RPG?

I'll try to find 'Winnie the Pooh, and Cthulhu Too' this evening. I think that I can remember approximately when I wrote it, so will check the relevant back-issues of A&E to find out exactly which one it was in and then dig out the disc on which I saved the original copy of my contribution to that issue. I might retype it into the fforum, or I might just e-mail it (as an attachment) to any of you who expresses interest.

John: Do you still have the Rupert/Cthulhu crossover available in a form that you could share with us?

While we're on the subject of Cthulhu, some of you might enjoy my friend Fiona's collection of... er... interesting images:

I'll gladly have a copy of Pooh / Cthulhu / Rupert by e-mail, I need a break BADLY.

Call me Rainbow if you want, but don't be surprised if the appearance doesn't match ...

With AA Milne in mind :-

Simon: If you're lucky, I should still have the originals for 'The Doom That Came To Nutwood' around here somewhere - text, couplets, illustrations and all. If you're unlucky, I'll pass them on...

To get them into a publicly available format would, I suppose, involve scanning them and finding somewhere to put them. This is not something I can personally manage, so if someone else can and would be prepared to do so, let me know, and if I can find the originals, we'll have to make some sort of postal arrangement.

And I am mightily eager to see 'Winnie the Pooh, and Cthulhu Too'.

Information please: How the heck do you actually *pronounce* Cthulhu?

I've always heard cuh-THOO-loo.

I once heard a filksong about Cthulu, to the tune of "Maria" from West Side Story. It ended with 'Cthulu.....I'll never stop screaming Cthulu'.

I've never played the Cthulu rpg but some friends of mine have. At one point, they refused to do the scenario, and their characters went shopping instead.
For those who don't know, in the 'Call of Cthulu' role playing game, the characters start with a certain number of Sanity points. The more they learn about Cthulu and other horrors, the more San they lose.

The game is also (in)famous for its map of Britain in the 'Green and Pleasant Land' supplement. Unfortunately the captions to the points marked had got mixed, thus placing the Highlands of Scotland firmly in Essex and similar goofs.
