To get this back on topic (at least temporarily).

I concur with Dante's first post.

I went into Waterstones all hopeful and was reliably informed that it's not available until tomorrow (despite there being lots of promotional displays and boxes of the books behind the counter).

Life's too short for arguing so I went round the corner and bought my copy from Borders instead !

To be fair, the guy was aware that Jasper was coming to do a reading even though he got the date wrong...

So, in shops now, just not in the Waterstones where Jasper's appearing in a fortnight.

Hang on...but it's supposed to actually be out today, isn't it?

Hmm. Confusion.

Apparently there's a stand and promo display in Borders, I shall go and see it this afternoon. And buy the Thrills album, though not from Borders.

That's what I thought ! Much easier to go to Borders...

We don't _have_ a Borders. Snarl.

Dido the Dodo says I ought to be less fussy about men. However, since her boyfriend is actually a penguin I'm really not sure I should take her advice!

I picked up my copies (hardback & trade paperback) in Optimus Books just over an hour ago, on my way back from work, and am now going home (from the computers at the public library) to read one of them. Maybe I'll see some of you in the WOLP section of the fforum tomorrow...

I'd tell you about my boyfriends, only it wouldn't take very long...

See, that was quick, wasn't it?

Auntsassy, don't leave 'harrasing people, especailly Sarah B' out of PSD's job description!

Woohoo! Just wanted to say "Got my copy!!!". And in glorious hardback too! At first I could only see the "big paperback" copies, proudly proclaiming £2 off a £10.99 book, but dammit, I came to get the hardback and the hardback I will have, so I asked and was duly sent to the first floor (of Waterstones in Picadilly). There, as if I were buying some hardcore fetish porn magazine, the assistant reached under the counter and produced a copy for me. Almost shaking with excitement I forked out twice (yes ... no discount ... shocking) what I would have paid for the paperback and was instantly enraptured. Hurrah!

I felt like such a geek in Starbucks thinking "ah, that's a relief, there's still no chapter 13" and "excellent, that'd be my postcard then". And signed too. Now what would be the point of me going to a signing?

Oh, I should probably read it too.

Excuse me. The point of going to a signing is to meet the Panjandrum, and hear his words of wisdom, that's what the point is.

Here, you didn't a posh tea shop while you were in Piccadilly, did you?

Aha! Cunning. Words of wisdom eh? But surely that *in addition* to reading WOLP, that would cause some kind of cerebral overload? I wouldn't want to endanger myself...

As for the second part, whu? Bizarrely though, I didn't get to look through it until later - I had to rush out of Picadilly to meet a friend at Victoria. Her train was subsequently late and I was in the starbucks at Victoria Station, since I am clinically addicted to Chai Lattes.

Yes, I know, Starbucks is Evil. But they're sooooo goooood.

Umm ... yeah.

And going to the Leeds signing specifically would also mean getting a chance to meet some fellow Fforumites, something Twila and I, alas, have not been able to do due to geographical constraints.

But we did get to meet Jasper in April! :-)

The thing that put me off is that all the signings have *phone in advance. tickets £x* on the advert thingy. I mean, that's like having to pay to go to church or something, right? What's with the whole paying thing? As an-only-just-former-student I resent having to pay for *anything*

Today I phoned W H Smiths in Meadowhall, and asked about WOLP. After a bit of research, I was informed that it will be published on the 7th, just as I was told by Waterstones on Saturday.

Why can't we get it in Sheffield when other shops are selling it elsewhere ?

Aaaaarrggghhhh !

AuntSassy - that's rather the point...

As for getting hold of Wolp - see in the Wolp fforum for my troubles on that score...

I just realised, I had a dream last night that my original cover Eyre Affair had turned into a new cover one, and I was terribly upset....odd.

That could be a sign that you are a touch obsessed with Thrusday Next books.
Or it could be a sign that you're just touched.
Take your pick!

PSD - It's Auntysassy - 2 y's, 3 s's.

There's a big difference between an Aunt and an Aunty - for example Great Aunt Jemima is very austere and has no sense of humour, whereas Auntysassy is not austere and reads Jasper Fforde!

QED - I'm definitely an Aunty!!!

Alright - you try typing non-wobbly at 133 in the morning on three pints of coffee....

Why anyone would drink three pints of coffee at 1.33 in the morning is beyond me...

I was reading WOLp, and wanted to be awake enough to enjoy it properly. I may have overdone it, however...
