Normally when visits to customers are handed out, I get the dull ones. Hull, Preston, Scunthorpe. Other folk (such as the boss) get Guernsey or Hong Kong.

But. I have just learnt we have made a sale in New Zealand.

AND I'M GOING! For a week! And getting paid for it!

Brilliaaaaaaaaant!!!!

Not fair at all! You'll need a really good PA to go ahead to organise everything, check hotels etc won't you? Please?

And a qualified bra fitter for Claire. No, really. You don't know how difficult it is to get a good larger-sized bra in the Antipodes!

Helas, there will only be me going. Claire shall have to stay in Blighty, for she hath a job and two dogs to look after, and anyway I can't see the taxpayers of NZ forking out to give my missis a free holiday .... and I certainly can't afford to pay for her myself.

Although if anyone wants to come along, feel free. Just so long as you pay for yourselves ..... you do know it's the middle of winter over there? It won't be all fun, you know (yesitwillyesitwillyesitwill).

(Oooh. Wonder if I can catch a Warriors game while I'm over there? Deffo bringing a shirt back).

August or September, likely. We are at the mercy of Wellington Regional Council (but keep shtum about that cos they ain't signed the contract yet).

If at all possible, Claire's coming with me. The plan is to do the work and then have a week's hols. We may never get the chance again.

Congratulations Jon. If you both go for a fortnight, what will you do with your two daft, sorry, delightful, dogs ?

Any chances of bringing back a toy kiwi ?

El perros will stay at home, and be spoiled rotten by my m-i-l.

Since my plane ticket is being bought and paid for by someone else, and we may not get much advance notice, side trips, holidays, wives, etc. could all be a bit problematic. I imagine what I will be given is a Heathrow - Auckland return with connnections to/from Manchester and Heathrow, so calling in Oz would only be possible if you can join the Air NZ flight back to London at Sydney or somewhere.

Meeting some of our resident Kiwis ought to be possible, though. Funny they haven't commented here yet. Hey, enzedders! What's good to see and do in the Shaky Isles, then?

They like sheep over there.

(Sorry, I know the sheep jokes were all used up in a previous thread, but they've gotta come out occassionally.)

I live in Melbourne, but I visited NZ in 2001.

We went to see the family cemetery and lots of relatives. At this time of year though, it could be very cold. Make sure you stay away from the South Island, though!

C'mon, Intrigue. He's a Pom. They think 20 degrees is a heatwave. the
South Island will be almost tropical to Jon.

I think you've got enough expensive travel on your plate ATM. Anyway, I've been working the figures out, and it'll cost Wellington Regional Council almost as much to fly me out there for the training as will to buy the software.

I'm not going to get to go, am I?

Meanwhile, the brother I plan to visit next month in Seattle (okay, he's the only brother I've got) has been served notice by his landlord that he has to move out by the end of August so it can be sold.

My brother and his wife have been house hunting for some time, and have just had an offer accepted on a house being built nearby. The house will be completed and they will close on August 7th.

The could well throw a spanner into my planed visit, since I'm supposed to arrive the evening of the 5th, and stay until the 13th. Marc will be, at best, a distracted host, and he probably won't be able to take as much time off to do stuff with me, since he'll need the time off for packing and moving. And while he does have some more vacation time, he doesn't think they'd appreciate it if he came in and said "I need the whole month of August off on short notice".

So I may end up either cancelling or rescheduling the trip (my brother has offerred to pay whatever that costs me, since it's a pittance compared to his morgage, and he makes 4 times my salary), or spending part of it wandering Seattle alone instead of spending time with my brother. Sigh.
