Welcome everyone from an ever so slightly scared Ptols who despite having only been here for 24 hours seems to have integrated so seamlessly that his submission to the "meet the fforum" thread, which sat just before ChelseaGirl and Rob's, wasn't even thought of as being from a newbie! *blushes*

I would actually have been here a long time before now, having been an avid JF reader for a couple of years, but put it off until such time as broadband was available locally - which it is now *throws his wimple in the air excitedly*

Hi to everyone from me. And apologies for staying on topic. I won't do it again.

I never thought of us all as creative before, and certainly wouldn't have thought of myself as being so, certainly.

Amazing what a fresh viewpoint can show you, isn't it?

Creative, you?

Well yes actually, I would say so...

I'm reluctantly accepting I may be. Strange times...

Ptolomy - Sorry! sorrysorrysorrysorrysorry. *grovelgrovelgrovel*

May I now say WELCOME. There, you got your own welcome, and didn't have to be part of a corporate welcome, which makes it so much more personal.

(did I say sorry?)

Strange indeed. But not as strange as the great 'goose-rain' of 1968, when hordes of geese fell from the sky and ruined car paint work across the country...

<cue eerie music>

OK, so maybe I've drunk/eaten something odd...

Sorry? If geese start falling on your car it's the bodywork you need to worry about.

Although if you had a Prussian helmet it'd be really easy to catch dinner...

It's called a pickelhaube (one of those Prussian/German helmets with a spike on top).

I'm full of useful information, me -- so now next time you're in Prussia and you need a pointy helmet to catch geese on, you'll know what to ask for.

While I'd like to say"You never know", it does seem rather unlikely.

Thought it was goose stepping you did in pointy helmet not goose stabbing

What if it starts raining cats and dogs. I wouldn't care to have something the size of an Alsation impaled violently on the top of my head.

had a dachshund once who used to try and impale himself violently on people, usually around ankle height.

Presumably as in the breed of dog, rather than somebody from Alsace. Thinking about it though - that was rather the point of the, er, point, wasn't it?

Spookily the alsation is also the German Shepherd Dog, GSD

I'm never sure why it's known as both, presumably as Alsace has changed hands so many times they're not sure if they shouldn't be French Shepherds.

Apparently it was because of (don't mention the) war when German was not a good name. So it was changed to Alsation to fool people. Didn't the royal family do something similar?

They did indeed, presumably as sharing a surname with the bloke whose troops we were fighting seemed a little bit unpatriotic...

No idea why...
