And you would soon egret it if you did. I tell you what, let's stork about waders instead, but you'll have to speak up. I'm a little hard of heron. (OK, I'll stop before I get sniped at).

Blame me, Sarah - your idea was simply to have duck-related posts in one place (and a very good idea that was too!). Sadly I led it astray almost immediately - and have been suffering the consequences ever since...
How many of you have noticed that in Thursday's world ducks would seem to be either extinct by her lifetime or purely mythical/fictional?
LIAGB, ch.34, when she and her father are discussing the differences between that world and the alternative Earth to which he's suggested sending her for safety:
'What about mammoths?'
'No - but there will be ducks.'
and WOLP, ch.1, when she's settling into Caversham Heights.
(I don't think that that's enough of a spoiler to need placing in the WOLP sub-fforum rather than here...)
On the subject of ducks, does anyone know why nearly all toy ducks, children's pictures of ducks, and so on, are yellow? I have never actually seen a yellow duck in real life. The commonest duck here in Britain is the mallard, and that's anything but yellow.
Yes indeed, definitely cute, but I've never seen a full-grown yellow duck. I know that not all toy ducks are meant to be ducklings because you can get mother and baby rubber duck sets, and the mother is yellow too.
