George Orwell lookalike.......

....... or should that be a Jasper Fford lookalike

There is a picture in the Radio Times this week of George Orwell, what struck me (I forgot to dodge before Jon pipes up about missing someone) is Jasper looks quite similar to him, especially around the eyes and the ears, but definately not the haircut.

My powers of observation (doesn't he look like ........ you get the picture)are not my strong point. So you may not agree.

What is the same are the great books that they write. (I'll get my Brownie points somehow)

Jasper's books are far more fun though. Actually *blush*, I thought he looked rather like Tony Blair. But only from certain angles, and he was standing at a lecturn, like Tony does, and you'd never actually mistake Jasper for Blair.
Must go and have a look for that piccy of George Laugh-A-Minute Orwell.

please, please don't start off awhole load of confusion between the Blairs.

There's an easy way to tell the difference:

If they're a socialist and don't have a stupid smile, it's Eric.
If they start examining your karma, It's Cherie.
And if Alistair Campbell is speaking, it's Tony.

Actually can you imagine Tony Blair writing 1984?

"Power is, y'know, not a means. Sincere look, wring hands. It is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution. Pause, look at audience. Wring hands again. I'm a pretty ordinary guy, you know, open hand gesture, but the third way insists we have a revolution to establish the dictatorship. I reject totally any suggestion that we have somehow spun a revolution."

And here's Eric writing about politics in general, and it seems strangely prescient:

"Political language... is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidarity to pure wind"

Skiffle - spooky! There was a pic of Tony Blair on the front of the Metro this morning and it occured to me then that he looked like Jasper!

That was just so... accurate.

I thought that Jasper's picture on the back of the UK books makes him look much older than he is. When I went to Leeds I was expecting someone older and was surprised. I think he should change that picture, it's not too flattering.

On the other hand, he can go to Sainsburys without being continually stopped by screaming groupies.

Can you imagine Michael Foot writing 1984? From Downing Street?

PSD: you've been watching/listening to Dead Ringers, haven't you ? That's where you got all the 'meaningful look - wring hands' stuff for Tony Blair from.

But then, if you're going to steal, steal from the best. That's what I always do.

Well, yes, it was rather nicked from Dead Ringers, but they use writers like me to write stuff for their characters, so it isn't that naughty...
