I work for BookScan - we monitor the sales of books in the UK (offices in US and Aus do the same). So I get a variety of books sent to me by the publishers. Those I want, I keep. Those I don't want go on the bookshelves next to my desk for other members of staff to take/read/return as they wish.

I don't flog them.

I emailed the bloke advertising first editons of shadowmancer on ebay and just got a very stroppy reply saying its a first edition / third printing...

*sigh*

If one day i'm in a bad mood i could denounce this people... at least when deluded people say first edition / first printing they are actually selling a first editon, but this bloke is just decieving people...

So far, (back to the question Badgerpants asked) I have the complete UK Harcover 1st Edtion set (TEA/LIAGB/WOLP) all signed. I also have the complete (so far) US Hardcover 1st Edition set (TEA/LIAGB) both signed. Plus I have various paperbacks for regular reading purposes.

And I have one proof copy of WOLP (and another one when Jon sends it...and this one is personalized) I'll get the other one signed the next time Jasper hits the US or I manage to hit one of the UK events. We shall see.

I think I'm going to start looking for the Aussie versions next.

the only one I haven't personally collected was my 1st Edition UK hardcover of TEA...my hubby searched on out and got it for me for Christmas. Made me cry :)

Hey there,

I know I don't post often on this forum but seen as the topic has come up I thought I would add my praises for Shadowmancer.

As a fan of Harry Potter (a fan, not one of those complete nutters - I leave that to Fforde's great and wonderful works and the great classics from which he steals of course ;-) ) and as someone who has spent a lot of the past year looking at Christianity from a rather emotion point of view(I'm currently an atheist...but that's another day and another cup of coffee), I thought I'd give Taylor's book a try and I was more than pleasently surprised. Apparently he has been commissioned to write four books and I'm guessing there's going to be an over-arching plot similar to the way the HP books are structured; except there's no wizarding school and Jesus (though cunningly he is not named yet, though it's pretty obvious who he is) takes on the Dumbledore style role. There is a lot of sterotypical child fiction good vs bad stuff but the 'evil' characters are well developed and Taylor allows us to see both sides of the Christians and heathens.

The reason I picked it up was it's claim to be set in Whitby. As a Yorkshireman I love going to the Whitby coast and as a fan of Dracula I couldn't help delving into a similarly literary world again. Shadowmancer is truly a weird and wonderful book - and it certainly leaves you thinking as the drama unfolds. If you have a hole in your reading list (don't laugh), fill it with this :-)

-Nick.

Is that the third in the series? I've read Fool's Errand and Golden Fool and loved them both.

Will Tintaglia and Icefyre find true love, and make little serpents?

I think that "thwap" is a very gay word when used in large numbers. Its often used by smelly geeks with no friends...

what do you think intrigue?

Bad news, I'm afraid. Without checking, it is like WOLP. Check to confirm.

Intrigue: first of all, have you noticed that naughty Badgerpants edited one of his posts in a way which might cause you to wish to thwap him? :-)

Secondly, my Spanish is almost non-existent, so could you tell me if I'm right in thinking that your sig really does refer to a demon chicken?

Thanks!
