Not sure if this has been asked before but.....

...my friend and I were chatting (I got him interested in the books, he read all 3 in a week!) about who would play the characters if Jasper Fforde sold the movie rights (all you purists dont freak please, this is purely a question for fun!)
I think, to make the question really insane, lets make it a Hollywood Blockbuster!

Jasper has said that if ever he allowed Them to make a film, he'd want all unknowns, so that people would go to see the movie for the movies sake, not for the actors sake.

But I can see John Malkovich as Hades. He does SUCH a great Baddie

John Cleese as Mycroft?
Liz Hurley as Daisy or Jane Eyre?

Definately unknowns for Bowden, Landen and Thursday.

John Cleese definitely. Liz Hurley: no! She sucks! Jane Eyre... Anna Hutchison, New Zealand celebrity and family friend.

Victor: Peter O'Toole.

Do you know someone who could be Thursday, Age 9?

Why not? After all, if Judy Garland could fill the role of 'Dorothy'...

(Who else here already knew that the film's producers actually wanted to cast Shirley Temple in that role, but couldn't arrange to borrow her from the studio that held her contract?)

I did ! I did ! And I ,for one, am really happy that it was Judy Garland and NOT Shirley Temple, even if she did whine a bit too much.

Not John Cleese - please not John Cleese! He's now past his sell by date and no longer funny.

Auntysassy! Wash your mouth out! How can you say such a thing? He's still brilliant.

(Major John Cleese fan here, in case you haven't noticed)

I'll bet you went to see the HP movie just to see John Cleese as a ghost.

I want to play Thursday, Age Nine. I -am- an actress, not the best, but I had a semi-lead in the Touring Company of the US Staged Edition of Lord of the Rings who almost went to England but didn't make it past Milwaukee.

I may be nearly fifteen but I can easily, -easily- pass for nine.

Judy Garland was 16. And I am also glad it wasn't Shirley Temple who plyaed Dorothy. Irritating as Judy was, she was nothing on Shirley. Precocious little brat.....

Rhea - so who did you play? Female parts are few, so I'm guessing you weren't very big at the time and got to be one of the beardless Hobbits. From 'Semi lead' it can't have been Ffrodo; I'm in doubt about Sam; you were Pippin or Merry, I guess, but maybe Sam; oh, put me out of my misery.

I must admit the thought of Milwaukee preceeding England seems funny to me.

I got to watch Wizard of Oz whilst babysitting - I spent ages trying hard not to laugh at the Munchkins goosestepping...

I'd favour all unknowns for a TN film (anyone know where Lola VaVoom is living?) (? hope I've got that name right - my brother who does not read anything (has to date read 3 1/2 books this year) has just pinched all my JFF books)) Though if we could have anyone, living or dead, for the film, then I'd suggest the guy who played Q in Bond before John Cleese for Mycroft. I think he'd be brilliant!

I've got a Thursday age nine! Liv Tennet, actress and annoying midget in my year at school. Played a 5 yr old in Kids World while age 11, and frequently is Shirley Temple *pukes*. Was also in LOTR:TTT , minor speaking part.

Doesn't she have a brother called Anton, as well?

(BTW I only know this because I Googled "Liv Tennet" to see if she looked like I imagine Thursday age 9 - I'm not quite that sad that I know the names of all the brothers of NZ actresses)

Jo, sadly he's dead, so we'll be needing the ChronoGuard to help with the film.
