Jo - I spent a lot of time in an open plan office, transcribing goon shows from a walkman. When even that gets boring, you know it's time to move on.

Oooh which goon shows? I'm not allowed a walkman here, or I'd be bringing my collection in.
Probably had best wait till I've been here a week before deciding whether to move on or not...

I wasn't 'allowed' a walkman either. That's what made it fun. I can't remember offhand which ones I transcribed, I have about 100 shows on tape. If you are interested inb swapsies, I'll put a list together. :-)

Oooh... Please do, and I'll put together a list of the ones that I've got (so that you can see whether that includes any which you lack...) too.

OK - I will warn you that I'm not keen on bootlegging official BBC tapes; just the ones I've taped off the Radio, mostly from the 1980s. Have you been listening to them on BBC7? - so far they've all been shows that you can buy, so no new ones for me :-(

Ooktavia used to be a stalwart of the Fforum, and Dave R thinks she is locked in a room because she isn't posting at the moment. I suspect she will be back, though!

KT _
Your e-mail has arrived, and I'll look at the list later on today. I must admit that most of the Goon shows in my collection are indeed on official BBC-issued discs, and I'm not that keen on bootlegging either. Still, even if neither of us feels free to copy any shows that they have & the other person doesn't, we might be able to manage short-term loans...

Sounds like a plan to me :-)

For addition to the list of books being plugged, one that I've just borrowed from the library_

"The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear

Being the demibiography of a seagoing bear,
with numerous illustrations
and excerpts from the
'Encyclopedia of the Marvels, Life Forms
and Other Phenomena of Zamonia and its Environs'

by Professor Abdullah Nightingale."

This was written by a German author named Walter Moers, originally published in 1999, and published as an English translation (by somebody named John Brownjohn... That's a surname which I don't recall ever seeing before...) in 2000. The latter edition's ISBN is 0-436-27500-7.
It's a "demibiography" because Chromobears _ the species to which Captain Bluebear belongs _ have 27 lives each. Zamonia is a continent in what we'd think of as the Atlantic Ocean, and includes a city called Atlantis. The story is hilarious...
