Re: Finally, a book I can plug with a bit of pride

That would be cool! Anyone please feel free to turn this into a sharing-your-music thread in addition to a plugging-your-prose thingy...of course, there's no way in hell I'm going to have the gall to provide a music link until somebody else does. But others should let their usual inhibitions go about displaying too much pride in their own work (especially you Britons...ooh, I'm going to get slapped for that one) and use this thread as a...what would you call it? Bragging Vent. Might as well have at least the one, right? Here, I'll see if I can change the topic heading.

I write, Not published stuff mine you. that's a little out of my area, since I can't spell and my sentence structure could use a lot of work but if your interested I've got a few things in my blog on my space...or any blogs that contain the name Rookee Alding actually.I wonder if my old Ujournal account is still active...

I do some poetry sometimes. but it's not really much.

Have done some writing. Others think more of it than I do though.

That's usually the case. It's nigh on impossible to read one's own stuff objectively.
Links, either of you? Pastes? Rooms of Informational Illusions?

Click for .txt
A more serious piece. Actually a lengthened school essay.

Click for another .txt
Heavily influenced by the large amounts of Lackey I was reading at the time. Needs a lot of work.

The rest of my stuff is RPG based. Might post some anyway though.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing. I love it when people have their own stuff -- they're not content just partaking. I think everyone on the planet would like to express him/herself, if only the means were available. Many have been trained into thinking they have no imaginations, which is a shame. We're inherently active creatures, not passive. But the thought of someone who believes there's nothing special about his/her voice, whether spoken, written, painted, sung, sculpted, glued, nailed or played breaks my heart. Everyone's special, and the truism is that the world will be without that lone, unique voice if it's silenced. Everyone's an artist (lowercase A -- I attach no pretentious nonsense to the word), and knows deep down what would be fulfilling, and what (s)he does well. But there's a lot of training in place regarding teaching people that they're not special or significant, and that's how the celebrity magazines and reality shows are sold, I suppose.

Sorry for the novella. I hadn't intended on that.

That soldier bit is really good. Sad, but some things are supposed to be. My favorite bit was the "I've no place" couplet.

"There are far worse ways to spend that precious time than building with spun sugar and spider webs." I think that's gorgeous. What fantastic wording. The latter piece, with the clearing, reminds me of my favorite Infocom games, but I'm not entirely sure why. Do you design the RPGs, or rather write modules for existing games, etc.? I admit I'm a sucker for the dragonesque escapism. (I've never read Lackey. Fantasy?)

Thanks, I do poetry every now and again.

Maybe I should post some of my longer things. they range in style.

Well, I'd certainly encourage you to. At least you know they'd get a few more readers. (I'm not sure how that figures into your overall writing impetus, but still.)

Chris: Mercedes Lackey writes a range of stuff (SF/F), but a decent chunk of it deals with modern-day elves who have been forced into Underhill. There are various ones scattered all over the place.

They are decent reads. :)

Go to Baen's Library and look for the SERRAted Edge books. You can read at least one for free.

Thank you for the compliment. But like I said, that second piece needs a lot of work. Is still too repetitive.

I don't have much by way of prose, and nothing at all of music, but I do do some photography, as well as knitting. Most of my successes are here: [musesusan.deviantart.com]
