Amy Greenford... what's this all about?

Hello ladies and gents, long time no post, as usual. Sorry about that. The exams are over now though, just the waiting for the results, so you never know, I may be around more frequently again. Hope everyone is well. :)

Anyway, to the point of my post. I've recently got a little into ARGing (Alternate Reality Gaming, for those of you who don't know) and this popped up. It seems oddly Nextian to me, though there's not much information on it at the moment.

The 'story' seems to be something about a couple of fictional characters, a bride and a groom, coming out of a book in the E-F section of the classics at Foyles bookshop in London. She's looking for more evidence about it.

Just wondered what your collective fforum thoughts were, really. :)

Hi again Sarah.

You are right: very Nextian.

Aren't just about all RPGs ARGs?

What? You mean Dungeons and Dragons isn't completely true to real life???

Hi Sarah!

D & D is pretty much true to life if you replace D&D encumbrance rules with Runequest's "You can carry what you can carry" rule.

Hmmm...

"I was checking the F and E sections on the Classics floor when a book came off the shelf."

Trying to think of a "classics" authour of this period, that's especially well known. She menions Wuthering Heights, but wouldn't that be in the B's? (Though that would have the Bronte connection to Jane Eyre- maybe they gatecrashed).

Most interesting. And very Nextian.

Would look into it more, but not read much of either book.

*hugs everyone she hasn't seen in a while*

It's good to be back. :D

Judging by the latest posts on her blog, this is definitely Nextian of some variety. Nowhere else would you find Miss Havisham and Spec-Ops in the same paragraph. In fact, no-where else would you find Spec-Ops, full stop. :)

The book that was on the floor when the bride and groom were first spotter was 'If on a winter's night a traveler' by Calvino. Seems an interesting book, though I've not read it myself.

Just keeping you updated. :)

Calvino is not a classic and finding Bronte in the E-F section is easy, just wait until someone looks at it and puts it back.....

did you know that there was an ARG connected with the series "Heroes" ? Look out for the quick flash of a business card for Primatech and call the 800 number.....

Curiouser and curiouser...

I can't find any reference to Dupine books on the net - anyone else found anything?

The only reference I can find to Dupine is a detective in the Sherlock Holmes series (also known as Dupin).

As why these characters would jump out of the E-F section - perhaps they jumped out of a George Eliot book but I don't know her work at all, so can't see a connection.

The 'Miss Havisham' video was great fun - sounded like Emma Thompson a bit (but despite the veil, it looked like suspiciously like Mari)...

All wonderfully daft and I'm sure all will be revealed by JFf at Swindon next week.

Dupin is Poe's creation and predates Sherlock Holmes - Holmes actually says something testy about Dupin (Watson has just made some comparison between the two) in one of Doyle's early stories, the title of which eludes me.

Secondly, methinks I note a queersome similiaritiness betwixt Niebla's syntax and idiom and that of the writer of the June Havisham blog (to which one is directed by 'Amy Greenford').
