I thought 2 was internal, and 1 was the internal that polices 2.

I think SpecOps 2 was quasi-jokingly referred to as Thought Police by someone in one of the books, although I believe we have no evidence one way or the other.

From the link...

5 is technically Search & Containment.

9 is Anti-terrorism

14 is actually Tactical Support Unit - I can't remember for certain if they were the ones doing the Danish Book hunting, but assuming so, it'd only have been a temporary realignment while Kaine was in power.

15 is Drug Enforcement Agency (who apparently deal with the complete range of illegal addictive substances from salty snacks, through poor quality TV - they're not doing a very good job, with Name That Fruit still on air - up to sugary fizzy drinks).

22 is English Aviation Authority.

23 is apparently the more general Food and Drugs Administration - I'd guess that Cheese was a fairly large part of their workload, though.

24 is indeed Art Crime

25 is Industrial Safeguards

26 is Pasta Police

28 is Inland Revenue (I assume they haven't merged with Custom there since it's so fragmented across other SpecOps)

29 is now Shakespeare division of SpecOps, including defence against Baconians (previously department for dealing with exaggareted and outlandish claims)

30 is Public Services Enforcement Authority

31 is Good Taste Re-Education

34 is GlobalWebPolice, funded by Goliath.

All info nicked from the SpecOps website (thanks to Bonzai Kitten for reminding me of its existence.

Vague, vague spoiler for Something Rotten.
Also, I note the comment "If SO-6 had been on duty the night President Formby was nearly assassinated, civil war may have been avoided."

Which Civil War was that? Formby's now deceased, so the Civil War must've been prior to 1985 - maybe the thing that caused Wales to become a republic?

Hmm... I'm not sure I'd really want to know... It's possible to go into back story too much. Look at the StarWars prequels*. I far preferred having a vague sense of history in those movies, with vague references to wars and politics past, than having whole movies boring me rigid with the details- I really didn't think that made the SW universe any more believeable.

Yes, I realise I wrote the word believeable in a context that includes dodgy CG aliens.

*Just for a second, then you can look away. It's all right!

You're just jealous because Jar Jar isn't from Oz.

Trust me, we don't want Jar-Jar.
I'd put a joke in, but I'm just too appalled at the idea of an Aussie Jar-jar.
Urgh.

Yes, I suppose if he was Aussie, he would have been called Tinny-Tinny.

Actually, I've just started rereading TEA again (although using bags rather than leaves makes it a fair bit harder, I must admit) and I think SpecOps 3 is actually Weird Stuff, 2 is Weirder Stuff. 4 and 5 are both just Search & Contain.

With regards to the Civil War, there's certainly evidence if you want to read it the way I mentioned in the first book - discussions of disputes with Wales and soldiers being involved.

And Star Wars wise: I'm actually intending to watch the whole series soon (not in one sitting...possibly over a week or two). In numerical order, so it gets better with each film. Except for VI, of course, which actually is somewhere between III and V...

Watched Star Wars, the original ones, this year and loved them. Glad I got to watch them. Thanks MartinB. :)
