Latin phrases!

Anyone speak Latin?

I need translations for "Beware of the Bride" and also "Just Married".

Apparently we're supposed to get sappy tshirts pre and post wedding - but I can't find anything that doesn't make me want to vomit so thought maybe if it was Latin I might feel better about the whole thing! :)

Failing that, I may just pick one of these gems!

I'm still reading through them, but how about:

Credidi me felem vidisse!

(I tought I taw a puddy tat!) ;)

Can't help with an answer to your original request XM - but on a similar note, if anyone knows how you would need to alter "veni, vidi, vici" to convert its meaning to "I came, I saw, I played conkers", I too would be grateful! :-)

Somewhere in this room,
I have a copy of THE CAT IN THE HAT in Latin-
may have to peruse it...

IANALS* so caveat emptor, but...

'Cave uxor' would be something like 'beware of the wife' (cave canem is definately 'beware of the dog...') And I believe 'nuper matrimonium' gives you 'recently married' although I think 'nupter nuptiae' looks better, even though the grammar ain't (quite) so good.

As for conkers... no direct latin for a 19th century game, but 'ludo castanea' is played with chestnuts.

That statement is either so deep it would take a lifetime to fully comprehend every particle of its meaning, or it is a load of absolute tosh. Which is it, I wonder?

Thanks for that Rob.

I'll practice it in my best Latin accent (not that I really have any idea what a good Latin accent should sound like!).

I wouldn't worry too much about grammar... The graffitti scratched into the brothel walls at pompeii isn't that crash hot, grammar wise.

Alright, alright! I've already admitted that my Latin accent is a little lacking - but there's no need to have a go at the grammatical accuracy of my graffiti too!

If I were you I'd put vidi, vici veni, as veni vidi vici is I came I saw I conquered :-)

Thus proving that it was a wise decision as you should always start as you mean to go on and its going to happen anyhow so you might as well start at the start in the time honoured fashion! (translate that into latin!)

alternatively you could have carpe pugam :-)

or very appropriately: Ad impossibilia nemo tenetur - Nobody must keep a commitment to do impossible things.

other things
Audiatur et altera pars - The other half should be heard as well (think about it )
carpe carpio - seize the carp
Citius Altius Fortius - (again open to interpretation)
Just Married - Cuiusvis hominis est errare - "Every human can make a mistake."

For "Beware of the Bride" try:

Caveo of Pontus

And for "Just Married":

Iustus Matrimonium
