People keep mentioning Tom Holt, and I tried one of his books (I forget the title, the one where the angels and devil are having problems because all sorts of things are falling apart, including the sun). It had some clever ideas, but I had a really hard time getting into it and reading all the way through--it felt like it didn't have any flow. Is there a different one of his I should try?

I found Tom Holt annoying. Can not really say why. He has some brilliant ideas, but does not make them come across in a way that works for me.

Only Human is readable though.

Was it Here Comes The Sun?

I quite like Tom Holt.

Yeah, Here Comes the Sun was the one. Like I said, some funny ideas, but I just had a hard time getting through it.

Try the stories set at John Wellington Wells. I forget the titles but the last one is 'You Don't Have to be evil to work here but it helps.'

I read 'A Song for Nero' and wondered what the point of it was at the end. Has anybody else read this and have an opinion?

'Valhalla' was also less than the level of the gods of FForde and Pratchett and Rankin R.

It is the new sequal to the Looking Glass Wars, I didn't know about it either until I happened to spot it in a shop!

Badly typed first time round!

A Song for Nero is one of his historical novels, rather than one of his comic fantasies. Admittedly it has SF "alternate time-line" threads, which make it a bit of an oddity.

Try "Goatsong" for his historical stuff and "Who's afraid of Beowulf" or "Flying Dutch" for his comic stuff.
