Im new here so forgive my ignorance.

I bought FAS the second it hit the shelves and then discovered about the missing bits via the Fforde website. I printed off the needed footnoterphones but kept them inside the book loose as I couldnt bear to deface it with my scrawl.

Having read some of the older threads here, there was a mention of a free 2nd edition somewhere. Was this a joke or can we actually get one?

Yes. But you have to commit a grave sin against your book to do it.
Personally, I'm just keeping my copy without the footnoterphone bits.
